Fatigue crack initiation site and propagation paths in high-cycle fatigue of magnesium alloy AZ31
Plane bending fatigue tests were conducted under stress ratios of −1, −0.1, 0.1, and 0.5 at room temperature in a laboratory atmosphere to elucidate the fatigue crack initiation mechanism of an extruded AZ31 magnesium alloy.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The Initiation Characteristics of Corrosion Fatigue Crack in 18Ni (250) Steel
Maraging steel is the material of deep sea pressure equipment. The characteristics of corrosion fatigue crack initiation in 18Ni (250) were investigated by performing a tensile fatigue test under different loading conditions.

Under compression, mode I cracking in the loading direction is observed in PMMA rhombus hole specimens. Except for specimens containing flaws, spontaneous initiation is observed experimentally with the abrupt nucleation of a crack at the rhombus V-notch ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
