Crack-tip fields in gradient enhanced elasticity

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2013
Abstract Nonlocal and gradient theories are capable of describing deformation of heterogeneous elastic materials better than classical elasticity theory. Crack-tip stress and strain fields in a gradient enhanced elastic material are derived on closed form.

Crack tip fields in strain gradient plasticity

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 1996
Solutions are presented for mode I and mode II crack tip fields for plane strain deformations of an elastic-plastic solid whose constitutive behavior depends on both strains and strain gradients. The constitutive law is the simplest generalization of the J2 deformation theory of plasticity to include strain gradient effects.

Crack-Tip Strain Field in Supershear Crack of Elastomers

ACS Macro Letters, 2020
We characterize the crack-tip strain field in the high-speed (supershear) crack in the elastomers propagating faster than the shear wave speed of sound (Cs). The dependence of steady-state crack velocity (V) on input tearing energy exhibits a crossover at V ≈ Cs between the subsonic (V < Cs) and supershear cracks (V > Cs). Several features of the crack-

The Near-Tip Fields of Fast Cracks

Science, 2010
Slightly Cracked While there are detailed theories to explain the propagation of a crack in the bulk of a material, our understanding of cracking breaks down near the tip of the crack. Experimentally, it is very hard to observe the propagation of a crack at the tip region because it tends to move very quickly.

Crack-tip fields in anisotropic shells

International Journal of Fracture, 2002
Asymptotic crack-tip fields including the effect of transverse shear deformation in an anisotropic shell are presented. The material anisotropy is defined here as a monoclinic material with a plane symmetry at x3 = 0. In general, the shell geometry near the local crack tip region can be considered as a shallow shell.

Crack tip field in thermoelectric media

Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2013
Abstract The crack problem in a medium possessing coupled thermoelectric effect under thermal-electric loads is considered in this paper. The crack surfaces boundary conditions are assumed to be electrically and thermally impermeable. The general two dimensional solutions are presented in closed-form based on the complex variable method.
