Creatine is essential for ATP regeneration in energy‐demanding cells. Creatine deficiency results in severe neurodevelopmental impairments. In the brain, creatine is synthesized locally by oligodendrocytes to supply neighboring neurons. Neuronal uptake is mediated by SLC6A8.
