Dynamic crushing of uniform and density graded cellular structures based on the circle arc model

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
A new circle-arc model was established to present the cellular structure. Dynamic response of models with density gradients under constant velocities is investigated by employing Ls-dyna 971.

Strain-relaxation and critical thickness of epitaxial La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 films

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2015
We report the thickness-dependent strain-relaxation behavior and the associated impacts upon the superconductivity in epitaxial La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 films grown on different substrates, which provide a range of strain.

Critical Strain Energy Levels Criterion for Structures with Lumped Parameters [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied and Computational Mechanics
The paper discusses the theory of critical strain energy levels for structures with lumped parameters. The theoretical assumptions and profs for common case are presented.

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Organizational factors impacting job strain and mental quality of life in emergency and critical care units

open access: yes, 2015
Objectives: This study measures the association between hospital staff’s job strain (JS), mental quality of life (MQL) and how they are influenced by the organization models within emergency and critical care units.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Does Muscle–Tendon Unit Structure Predispose to Hamstring Strain Injury During Running? A Critical Review

open access: yes, 2021
DigitalHamstring strain injury (HSI) remains the most common muscle injury in high-intensity running in humans. The majority of acute HSI occur specifically within the proximal region of the long head of biceps femoris and there is a sustained interest ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
