Evidence supporting a catalytic pentad mechanism for the proteasome and other N-terminal nucleophile enzymes

open access: yesNature Communications
Proteases are defined by their nucleophile but require additional residues to regulate their active sites, most often arranged as catalytic triads that control the generation and resolution of acyl-enzyme intermediates.

Stoichiometry‐Programmed MXenes via Precursor Engineering for High‐Performance EMI Shielding and Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Precursor carbon stoichiometry programs internal strain and oxygen substitution in Ti3AlCxO2‐x, deterministically switching Ti3CxO2‐xTz MXenes between highly aligned 2D nanosheets and spontaneous 1D nanoscrolls. This synthesis‐stage architecture control enables ultrathin X/W‐band EMI shielding with outstanding mass‐normalized performance and bending ...

Cryo-CLXEM introduces cryo-SXT to bridge the resolution gap in cryo-CLEM

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Cryo-imaging in cellular biology provides the means to visualize the cellular interior at close-to-native conditions. A cornerstone in the field has been cryo-correlative light and electron microscopy (cryo-CLEM), with cryo-visible light fluorescent ...

Field‐Effect Transistors from Artificial Charged Domain Walls in Stacked Van der Waals Ferroelectric α‐In2Se3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study utilizes the van der Waals stacking of ferroelectric α$\alpha$‐In2Se3 to fabricate in‐plane artificial charged domain walls. These charged domain walls are electrically accessible, gate‐tunable, and show 2–9 orders of magnitude higher conductance than charged domain walls from thin film ferroelectrics, allowing their integration in field ...

Dielectric and Gate Metal Engineering for Threshold Voltage Modulation in Enhancement Mode Monolayer MoS2 Field Effect Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Enhancement‐mode monolayer MoS2 FETs with low threshold voltage are essential for low‐power electronics. The threshold voltage can be tuned by the gate metal work function when the semiconductor/dielectric interface is clean. Interfaces between monolayer MoS2 and ZrO2 or hBN allow effective work‐function modulation of the threshold voltage, in contrast

Radiotherapy Enhancement by Gold Nanocluster‐functionalized Nanoliposomes Using Polychromatic Orthovoltage X‐ray Irradiation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Lipid drug carriers to which ultra‐small gold nanoparticles were added enabled more efficient radiotherapy of cultured pancreatic cancer tumors. These nanoparticles boosted radiation‐induced damage to tumors by generating more reactive molecules, though higher gold levels are needed for strong benefits.

Hydrogel‐Based 3D‐Printable Stretchable Pressure Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We present a carbon‐black‐functionalized double‐network granular hydrogel (DNGH) pressure sensor capable of detecting pressures from 200 Pa, equivalent to a light finger touch, up to 500 kPa. The sensor exhibits signal drifts below 3.5% after 800 cycles and response times around 80 ms. Leveraging this broad sensing range, we 3D print this material into
