Production of Curcuminoids in Engineered Escherichia coli

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2017
Curcumin, a hydrophobic polyphenol derived from the rhizome of the herb Curcuma longa, possesses diverse pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiproliferative, and antiangiogenic activities. Two curcuminoids (dicinnamoylmethane and bisdemethoxycurcumin) were synthesized from glucose in Escherichia coli.

Plant-derived health - the effects of turmeric and curcuminoids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Plants contain numerous polyphenols, which have been shown to reduce inflammation and hereby to increase resistance to disease. Examples of such polyphenols are isothiocyanates in cabbage and broccoli, epigallocatechin in green tee, capsaicin in chili ...

Pathogenic mycobacteria achieve cellular persistence by inhibiting the Niemann-Pick Type C disease cellular pathway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background. Tuberculosis remains a major global health concern. The ability to prevent phagosome-lysosome fusion is a key mechanism by which intracellular mycobacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, achieve long-term persistence within host cells.

Curcuminoids as Potent Inhibitors of Lipid Peroxidation

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 1994
Abstract Earlier studies showed that curcumin is a potent inhibitor of iron-catalysed lipid peroxidation. Demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin and acetylcurcumin were tested for their ability to inhibit iron-stimulated lipid peroxidation in rat brain homogenate and rat liver microsomes.
