Comparisons of customer behavior in Markovian queues with vacation policies and geometric abandonments

RAIRO - Operations Research, 2020
This paper mainly studies customers’ equilibrium balking behavior in Markovian queues with single vacation and geometric abandonments. Whenever the system becomes empty, the server begins a vacation. If it is still empty when the vacation ends, the server stays idle and waits for new arrivals.

Pricing in Service Systems with Rational Balking and Abandonment of Time‐Sensitive Customers

Production and Operations Management, 2022
The current literature on pricing in service systems with time‐sensitive customers predominately ignores the rational abandonment of customers with mixed‐risk attitude. The goal of this study is to address this gap. We consider an unobservable queueing system with a nonlinear waiting cost function, which is concave up to a certain point and then ...

Valuing the Real Option of Abandoning Unprofitable Customers when Calculating Customer Lifetime Value

Journal of Marketing, 2006
In recent years, several authors have developed models that focus on the allocation of scarce marketing resources based on customer lifetime value (CLV). These approaches use CLV to develop a rank order of customers and recommend devoting more resources to customers with higher ranks.

A Retrial Queueing System with Abandonment and Search for Priority Customers

2017
We consider a single server retrial queueing model with two types of customers, abandonment of customers and search for priority customers. Two types of customers namely type I and type II arrive according to two independent Poisson processes and upon arrival, if the server is busy, join orbits I and II respectively. Orbit I is of finite capacity while

Many-server queues with customer abandonment: A survey of diffusion and fluid approximations

Journal of Systems Science and Systems Engineering, 2012
The performance of a call center is sensitive to customer abandonment. In this survey paper, we focus on G / GI / n + GI parallel-server queues that serve as a building block to model call center operations. Such a queue has a general arrival process (the G), independent and identically distributed (iid) service times with a general distribution (the ...
