TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

The Surface of 2003EL61 in the Near Infrared [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J.655:1172-1178,2007, 2006
We report the detection of crystalline water ice on the surface of 2003 EL61. Reflectance spectra were collected from Gemini North telescope from 1.0 to 2.4 micron wavelength range, and from the Keck telescope across the 1.4 to 2.4 micron wavelength range. The signature of crystalline water ice is obvious in all data collected.

In situ measurements of HCN and CH3CN over the Pacific Ocean: Sources, sinks, and budgets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We report the first in situ measurements of hydrogen cyanide (HCN) and methyl cyanide (CH3CN, acetonitrile) from the Pacific troposphere (0-12 km) obtained during the NASA Transport and Chemical Evolution over the Pacific (TRACE-P) airborne mission ...

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Unveiling ADP-binding sites and channels in respiratory complexes: Validation of Murburn concept as a holistic explanation for oxidative phosphorylation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 2018, 2018
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (mOxPhos) makes ATP, the energy currency of life. Chemiosmosis, a proton centric mechanism, advocates that Complex V harnesses a transmembrane potential (TMP) for ATP synthesis. This perception of cellular respiration requires oxygen to stay tethered at Complex IV (an association inhibited by cyanide) and ...

Cyanides Reduction and Pasting Properties of Cassava (Manihot Esculenta Crantz) Flour as Affected by Fermentation Process

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: The effect of fermentation process on total cyanides content reduction and pasting properties of cassava flour was evaluated. The fermentation process studied was spontaneous fermentation (SF) and the fermentation with the addition of mixed ...

An improved synthesis, crystal structures, and metallochromism of salts of [Ru(tolyl-terpy)(CN)(3)](-) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The previously reported complex [Ru(ttpy)(CN)(3)] [ttpy = 4'(p-tolyl)-2,2':6',2"-terpyridine] is conveniently synthesised by reaction of ttpy with Ru(dmso)(4)Cl-2 to give [Ru(ttpy)(dmso)Cl-2], which reacts in turn with KCN in aqueous ethanol to afford ...

Bioorthogonal Engineering of Cellular Microenvironments Using Isonitrile Ligations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Highly selective chemistries are required for fabrication and post‐cross–linking modification of cell‐encapsulating hydrogels used in tissue engineering applications. Isonitrile ligation reactions represent a promising class of bioorthogonal chemistries for engineering hydrogel‐based cellular microenvironments. Isonitrile‐based hydrogels are stable and
