Estrogen Modulation of the Cyclic AMP Response Element-Binding Protein Pathway
Neuroendocrinology, 2001Actions of estrogen include mechanisms leading to alterations in gene transcription that may be independent of nuclear estrogen receptors, as well as those involving direct action of the estrogen receptor on the genome. Also, the influence of estrogen in the brain appears to extend well beyond areas associated with reproduction and may include ...

CD28-costimulation activates cyclic AMP-responsive element-binding protein in T lymphocytes
The Journal of Immunology, 1997Abstract Cyclic AMP-responsive element binding protein (CREB) mediates gene expression in response to cAMP stimulation. The transcriptional activity of CREB depends on both the phosphorylation of Ser133 and the recruitment of cofactor for assembly of transcriptional complex.

Clinical observations agree that antidepressant drugs are effective only after a lag phase of 1-3 weeks. This delay could be explained at the molecular level by an action on gene transcription. Transcription of many genes is directed by the cAMP/Ca(2+)-responsive element (CRE) and its cognate transcription factor CRE-binding protein (CREB).

The TAR element (Tax-responsive element; also called TxRE) is a major determinant of the regulation of bovine leukemia virus (BLV) expression. In order to gain insight into the mechanisms of viral expression, complexes formed between proteins and the TAR enhancer DNA were analyzed by gel retardation assays.

Previous studies from our laboratory have demonstrated that stimulation of 5-hydroxytryptamine2A receptors in rat cerebellar granule cells produces an increase in the levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine2A receptor messenger RNA and binding sites, and that this up-regulation requires de novo RNA and protein synthesis.

We determine whether the cyclic AMP signal transduction pathway affects phosphorylation of cyclic AMP response element binding protein and increases muscle gene expression in the heart. Elevation of cyclic AMP results in phosphorylation of the binding protein which is detected using an antibody specific for the phosphorylated, but not the ...

Discovery of selective inhibitors for cyclic AMP response element-binding protein
Anti-Cancer Drugs, 2019Bromodomains are epigenetic readers of acetyl-lysine involved in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional regulations. Over the past few years, extensive research has been carried out to discover small-molecule inhibitors against bromodomains to treat various diseases.

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses identification of cyclic AMP response element-binding protein-dependent transcriptional responses in hypoxia by microarray analysis. A functional role for the cyclic AMP response element-binding protein (CREB) is demonstrated in controlling gene expression in hypoxia.
