The proopiomelanocortin (POMC) gene expressed in corticotrophs of the anterior pituitary encodes several biologically active peptides and is primarily under the positive control of hypophysiotropic factors (e.g. corticotropin releasing hormone). Using AtT20 cells as a model, we show that these factors increase levels of POMC primary RNA transcripts ...

miR-34b Targets Cyclic AMP–Responsive Element Binding Protein in Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Cancer Research, 2009Abstract The cyclic AMP–responsive element binding protein (CREB) is documented to be overexpressed in leukemia, but the underlying mechanism remains unknown. Here, microRNAs (miRNA), which act as negative regulators of gene expression principally through translational repression, are investigated for the mediation of high CREB protein ...

Both axolemma-enriched fractions (AEF) and cyclic AMP have been shown to regulate the proliferation and differentiation of cultured primary Schwann cells (SC). We have evaluated the role of CREB, a transcription factor that binds to the cAMP-responsive element, in mediating the AEF-stimulated SC proliferation and differentiation.

Abstract The NF-kappaB family of transcription factors regulates the inducible expression of a variety of genes. Recently, we showed that elevation of intracellular cyclic AMP inhibits NF-kappaB-mediated transcription in human monocytes and endothelial cells without preventing nuclear translocation of NF-kappaB complexes.

CD28-costimulation activates cyclic AMP-responsive element-binding protein in T lymphocytes.
The Journal of Immunology, 1997Abstract Cyclic AMP-responsive element binding protein (CREB) mediates gene expression in response to cAMP stimulation. The transcriptional activity of CREB depends on both the phosphorylation of Ser133 and the recruitment of cofactor for assembly of transcriptional complex.

Abstract: We have recently demonstrated that mRNA expression of cyclic AMP (cAMP) response element‐binding protein (CREB) is down‐regulated in CATH.a cells (a neural‐derived cell line) by activation of the cAMP pathway. We now demonstrate that this down‐regulation can be accounted for by a decrease in the rate of CREB gene transcription.

Previous studies from our laboratory have demonstrated that stimulation of 5-hydroxytryptamine2A receptors in rat cerebellar granule cells produces an increase in the levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine2A receptor messenger RNA and binding sites, and that this up-regulation requires de novo RNA and protein synthesis.

Cyclic AMP (cAMP) response element binding protein (CREB) is a transcription factor that has been implicated in neuronal responses to ischemia. We examined the effect of global cerebral ischemia in the rat on the expression of CREB, its transcriptionally active phosphorylated form (pCREB), and the nuclear adaptor protein, CREB binding protein (CBP ...

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses identification of cyclic AMP response element-binding protein-dependent transcriptional responses in hypoxia by microarray analysis. A functional role for the cyclic AMP response element-binding protein (CREB) is demonstrated in controlling gene expression in hypoxia.

Activation of cyclic AMP response element-binding protein (CREB) in aggressive periodontal disease.
Quintessence international (Berlin, Germany : 1985), 2011To report a novel observation of neutrophil signal transduction abnormalities in patients with localized aggressive periodontitis (LAP) that are associated with an enhanced phosphorylation of the nuclear signal transduction protein cyclic AMP response element-binding factor (CREB).Peripheral venous blood neutrophils of 18 subjects, 9 patients with LAP ...
