Mechanistic studies of the phenobarbital-type induction of cytochromes P450 : role of AMP-activated protein kinase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Inside the liver cells there are sophisticated mechanisms that have evolved over millions of years to metabolize toxic substances, many of which are fat-soluble compounds making them difficult for the body to excrete.

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Sleep is enhanced in aged male mice that overexpress calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
The dysregulation of sleep–wake patterns that occurs during aging is well documented and coincides with changes in intracellular signaling pathways that regulate sleep, such as the calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMKII)/cyclic-AMP response ...

GSK-3α Is a Novel Target of CREB and CREB-GSK-3α Signaling Participates in Cell Viability in Lung Cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Overexpression or activation of cyclic AMP-response element-binding protein (CREB) has been known to be involved in several human malignancies, including lung cancer.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Multiple sequence-specific transcription factors modulate cytomegalovirus enhancer activity in vitro

open access: yes, 1988
The possibility of DNA-binding proteins interacting in vitro with the polymerase II transcriptional machinery was explored by using a competition assay with individual target sequences for enhancer-binding factors.

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.

Decreased CREB levels suppress epilepsy

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2012
Epilepsy is a common neurologic disorder yet no treatments aimed at preventing epilepsy have been developed. Several molecules including genes containing cAMP response elements (CREs) in their promoters have been identified that contribute to the ...

Chemotherapy Controls Metastasis Through Stimulatory Effects on GRP78 and Its Transcription Factor CREB3L1

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
To achieve a cure for metastatic breast cancer, further understanding of molecular drivers of the metastatic cascade is essential. Currently, chemotherapy regimens include doxorubicin and paclitaxel which act in part by inducing the unfolded protein ...

The CREB-miR-9 negative feedback minicircuitry coordinates the migration and proliferation of glioma cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Migration-proliferation dichotomy is a common mechanism in gliomagenesis; however, an understanding of the exact molecular mechanism of this "go or grow" phenomenon remains largely incomplete.
