Structural Insights Into the Function of Leishmania major Adenylosuccinate Lyase

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT One of several intriguing aspects of kinetoplastid biochemistry is the complete dependence on host purines and purine recycling due to the lack of a de novo purine biosynthesis pathway. Adenylosuccinate lyase (ASL, EC 4.3.2.2) is a key enzyme in the purine synthesis pathway responsible for the conversion of adenylosuccinate into adenosine ...

Preclinical Evaluation of Berry Extracts as a Nutritional Intervention to Alleviate Myocardial Ischemia–Reperfusion Injury and Atherosclerosis Development

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the experimental design and the proposed mechanisms underlying the cardioprotective and anti‐atherosclerotic effects of Greek‐derived berry extracts. C57BL/6 mice with WD–induced MS and ApoE−/− mice with atherosclerosis received chronic supplementation with WMex or BBex.

Stimulation of Measles Virus Replication by Cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate

open access: yesIntervirology, 1991
Measles virus (MV) replication in acutely infected human cells was markedly stimulated following exposure to guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cyclic GMP). Addition of cyclic GMP to tissue culture fluids immediately following infection with the virus resulted in acceleration of virus-mediated cell fusion, increased synthesis of virus-specified proteins ...

The Molecular Organization of Human cGMP Specific Phosphodiesterase 6 (PDE6): Structural Implications of Somatic Mutations in Cancer and Retinitis Pigmentosa

open access: yesComputational and Structural Biotechnology Journal, 2019
In the cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signaling pathway, phosphodiesterase 6 (PDE6) maintains a critical balance of the intracellular concentration of cGMP by catalyzing it to 5′ guanosine monophosphate (5′-GMP).

Responsive nitric oxide‐releasing antibacterial materials for biofilm‐associated infections: Mechanisms, design strategies, and applications

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the recent progress in responsive NO‐releasing materials and their applications in biofilm‐associated infectious diseases. The design principles and response mechanisms are given to provide inspiration toward the future development of multi‐responsive NO‐releasing materials.

Nocturnal awakening secondary to pain in sleep‐related painful erection: A case report and literature review

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract A 41‐year‐old male patient presented with a 13‐year history of recurrent nocturnal penile pain associated with erections during sleep. Over the course of his illness, the patient attended outpatient clinics on 298 occasions and was hospitalized three times. The primary symptom reported was erectile pain occurring during sleep.

Sustained elevation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate induces apoptosis in microglia

open access: yesBrain Research Bulletin, 2009
Cyclic nucleotides mediate transient as well as plastic cellular responses. The most ultimate response is cell death. In the present study, we propose that an increase of intracellular cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) for at least 1h promotes cell death in the murine microglial cell line, BV-2 cells, as well as in primary murine microglia.

Stimuli‐responsive nanostructured hydrogen sulfide donors for enhanced cancer treatments

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
Three typical kinds of stimuli‐responsive nanostructured hydrogen sulfide (H2S) donors are reviewed. The nanostructures ensure precise delivery of H2S to the lesion site and regulate the release behavior. The H2S‐based gas therapy has been used to synergize with other cancer treatment modalities, achieving enhanced efficacy while reducing side effects.

Update on Non‐Biological and RNA‐Based Therapeutics in Chronic Inflammatory Diseases: Precision Medicine Through Small Molecules: An EAACI Position Paper

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the last decades, critical advancements in research technology and knowledge on disease mechanisms steered therapeutic approaches for chronic inflammatory diseases towards unprecedented target specificity. For allergic and chronic lung diseases, biologic drugs pioneered this goal, acquiring on the way—through the clinical use of monoclonal ...

Research progress of phosphodiesterase 5 in heart failure [PDF]

open access: yesJichu yixue yu linchuang
Phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5), a cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific hydrolase, is targets cGMP produced by soluble guanosine cyclase (sGC) that is activated by nitric oxide (NO). It catalyzes the hydrolysis of the phosphodiester bond in cGMP and
