SCF Fbx4/alphaB-crystallin cyclin D1 ubiquitin ligase: a license to destroy

open access: yesCell Division, 2007
Cyclin D1 is an allosteric regulator for cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4/6). The cyclin D/CDK4 kinase promotes G1/S transition through the posttranslational modification and the subsequent inactivation of the retinoblastoma (Rb) protein and ...

Cancer cell‐intrinsic type 1 interferon: production, signaling, and outcomes within sex‐biased, female malignancies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cell‐autonomous roles of interferon type 1 vary based on duration and intensity. While acute, robust signaling results in cancer cell cytotoxic effects, sustained, low‐level signaling is associated with tumor‐promoting effects. This review summarizes current research of IFN‐1 in cancer and within the clinical setting, with an emphasis on female ...

The role of anchorage in cell cycle control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Mammalian cells generally require both mitogens and anchorage signals in order to proliferate. Failure to receive these signals results in either cell-cycle arrest or cell death, known as anoikis, due to activation of anchorage-dependent checkpoint ...

Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Normal levels of p27Xic1 are necessary for somite segmentation and determining pronephric organ size [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Xenopus laevis cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor p27Xic1 has been shown to be involved in exit from the cell cycle and differentiation of cells into a quiescent state in the nervous system, muscle tissue, heart and retina.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

JNK and ERK8 as downstream effectors of receptor tyrosine kinases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
MAP kinases are a super-family of serine-threonine protein kinases expressed in all eukaryotic cells. In mammals, there are many MAP kinases with different biological functions, grouped in distinctly regulated groups, ERK1/2 (extracellular signal related

Control of microtubule dynamics and length by cyclin A- and cyclin B-dependent kinases in Xenopus egg extracts [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
. In eukaryotic ells, the onset of mitosis in-volves cyclin molecules which interact with proteins of the cdc2 family to produce active kinases. In verte-brate cells, cyclin A dependent kinases become active in S- and pro-phases, whereas a cyclin B ...

Loss of AMBRA1 activates MAPK and angiogenesis signaling pathways in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Loss of AMBRA1 in melanoma cells activates multiple oncogenic pathways associated with tumor progression. Transcriptomic and protein network analyses revealed that AMBRA1 depletion enhances MAPK/ERK signaling, angiogenesis, TGF‐β/EMT signaling, and Wnt/axon guidance pathways.

A cyclin without cyclin-dependent kinases: cyclin F controls genome stability through ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Cell cycle transitions are driven by the periodic oscillations of cyclins, which bind and activate cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) to phosphorylate target substrates.
