Comparative Evaluation of Ethanolic Extracts Obtained From the Seeds of White and Black Açai Exhibit Antioxidant and Cytoprotective Activity In Vitro

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2026.
Açai seed extracts (black/white) showed antioxidant activity (black ∼30% stronger), no cytotoxicity or genotoxicity, and transient cytoprotection in normal and cancer cell lines. Black extract (200 µg/mL) inhibited colony formation without reducing cisplatin efficacy. Phenolic‐rich seed waste warrants further therapeutic study. ABSTRACT The açai fruit (

Role for intestinal CYP2E1 in alcohol-induced circadian gene-mediated intestinal hyperpermeability

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 2013
We have shown that alcohol increases Caco-2 intestinal epithelial cell monolayer permeability in vitro by inducing the expression of redox-sensitive circadian clock proteins CLOCK and PER2 and that these proteins are necessary for alcohol-induced hyperpermeability.

Ya‐Jie‐Sha‐Ba Decoction Regulates Arachidonic Acid Metabolism to Treat Alcohol‐Associated Liver Disease by Activating PPARα–CYP4A14 Axis: Insights From Multi‐Omics Analysis and Experimental Validations

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 19, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Ya‐Jie‐Sha‐Ba decoction (YJSB), a traditional Dai medicinal formulation, has been widely used by the Dai ethnic group and has shown efficacy in alleviating alcohol‐associated liver disease (ALD). However, the molecular mechanism of YJSB in the management of ALD remains unclear.

Functional PstI/RsaI Polymorphisms in the CYP2E1 Gene among South Indian Populations

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention, 2013
Human cytochrome P4502E1 (CYP2E1) is a well-conserved xenobiotic-metabolizing enzyme expressed in liver, kidney, nasal mucosa, brain, lung, and other tissues. CYP2E1 is inducible by ethanol, acetone, and other low-molecular weight substrates and may mediate development of chemically-mediated cancers.

CYP2E1 and risk of chemically mediated cancers

open access: yes, 2010
Importance of the field: Among various human CYPs, CYP2E1 is of particular interest because of its involvement in the metabolic activation of many low molecular mass procarcinogens.

Novel CYP2E1 haplotype identified in a South African cohort

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Science, 2014
Alcohol abuse accounts for approximately 2.5 million deaths annually and is the third highest risk factor for disease and disability. Alcohol is metabolised by polymorphic enzymes and the status of an individual with respect to alcohol metabolising ...

Association of CYP2E1 gene polymorphism with predisposition to cancer development.

open access: yesExperimental oncology, 2006
We summarize research results on association of cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) genetic polymorphisms with the development of ecologically determined cancers. Cytochrome P450 monooxygenase enzyme system is involved in metabolic activation of procarcinogens, which is an important stage during normal cell transformation into a malignant one.

Role ofCYP2E1gene polymorphisms association with hepatitis risk in Northeast India

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2010
To investigate hepatitis virus, genetic and environmental factors, and their interactions in predisposing patients to liver diseases in Northeast India.A total of 104 jaundice patients and 124 community controls were included. Serological analysis was performed by routine enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and nucleic acid testing for hepatitis viruses

Phytic acid attenuates acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity via modulating iron-mediated oxidative stress and SIRT-1 expression in mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Introduction: Administration of high doses of acetaminophen (APAP) results in liver injury. Oxidative stress and iron overload play roles in the pathogenesis of APAP-induced hepatotoxicity.
