Precise Molecular Structures of Cysteine, Cystine, Hydrogen-Bonded Dicysteine, Cysteine Dipeptide, Glutathione and Acetyl Cysteine Based on Additivity of Atomic Radii [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Structures of molecules are usually represented by arbitrary line drawings, ball and stick or space filling models. In recent years, the author found that using the appropriate radii of atoms and ions, bond lengths in inorganic, organic and biomolecules ...

The N-terminal shuttle domain of Erv1 determines the affinity for Mia40 and mediates electron transfer to the catalytic Erv1 core in yeast mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Erv1 and Mia40 constitute the two important components of the disulfide relay system that mediates oxidative protein folding in the mitochondrial intermembrane space. Mia40 is the import receptor that recognizes the substrates introducing disulfide bonds

Chemical Proteomics Reveals New Targets of Cysteine Sulfinic Acid Reductase

open access: yesNature Chemical Biology, 2018
Cysteine sulfinic acid or S-sulfinylation is an oxidative post-translational modification (OxiPTM) that is known to be involved in redox-dependent regulation of protein function but has been historically difficult to analyze biochemically.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

A Photoelectrochemical Sensor for the Sensitive Detection of Cysteine Based on Cadmium Sulfide/Tungsten Disulfide Nanocomposites

open access: yesNanomaterials
In this work, a CdS-nanoparticle-decorated WS2 nanosheet heterojunction was successfully prepared and first used to modify ITO electrodes for the construction of a novel photoelectrochemical sensor (CdS/WS2/ITO). The thin-film electrode was fabricated by

Gas-Phase Fragmentation Reactions of Protonated Cystine using High-Resolution Tandem Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Cystine is an important biomolecule in living systems. Although collision-induced dissociation (CID)-based tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) is commonly applied for identification and quantification of cystine in both biomedical and nutritional studies ...

Synthesis and structure of a complex of copper(I) with l-cysteine and chloride ions containing Cu12S6 nanoclusters

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2021
The title hydrated copper(I)–l-cysteine–chloride complex has a polymeric structure of composition {[Cu16(CysH2)6Cl16]·xH2O}n [CysH2 = HO2CCH(NH3+)CH2S− or C3H7NO2S], namely, poly[[tetra-μ3-chlorido-deca-μ2-chlorido-dichloridohexakis(μ4-l-cysteinato ...

KLHL12 promotes non-lysine ubiquitination of the dopamine receptors D-4.2 and D-4.4, but not of the ADHD-associated D-4.7 variant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Dopamine D-4 Receptor Polymorphism : The dopamine D-4 receptor has an important polymorphism in its third intracellular loop that is intensively studied and has been associated with several abnormal conditions, among others, attention deficit ...

Cysteine depletion targets leukemia stem cells through inhibition of electron transport complex II.

open access: yesBlood, 2019
We have previously demonstrated that oxidative phosphorylation is required for the survival of human leukemia stem cells (LSCs) from acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...
