Tissue‐Specific Plasticity of DNA Methylation Across Intertidal Microhabitats in Juvenile Mussels (Mytilus californianus)

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 11, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Epigenetic modifications to DNA are proposed to underpin plastic responses to environmental change, and the manner in which DNA methylation contributes to plasticity likely differs among tissues. However, few studies have investigated tissue‐specific DNA methylation responses to ecologically relevant environmental stressors in natural settings.

Advances in Visualizing Cytosine Methylation and Allele‐Specific Epigenetic States in Tissue Context

open access: yesPathology International, Volume 76, Issue 6, June 2026.
The ICON method enables sequence‐specific, bisulfite‐free visualization of DNA methylation through chemical recognition of methylated cytosines. Following probe hybridization under mild denaturing conditions, methylation‐dependent interstrand complexes are stabilized by covalent crosslinking.

DNA cytosine methylation in plant development

Journal of Genetics and Genomics, 2010
Cytosine bases of the nuclear genome in higher plants are often extensively methylated. Cytosine methylation has been implicated in the silencing of both transposable elements (TEs) and endogenous genes, and loss of methylation may have severe functional consequences.

Accurate Detection of Methylated Cytosine in Complex Methylation Landscapes

open access: yesAnalytical Chemistry, 2013
Monitoring DNA methylation can be a useful biomarker for disease diagnosis and prognosis. However, monitoring the methylation status of a specific cytosine biomarker is often confounded by heterogeneous peripheral DNA methylation. To address this issue, molecular inversion probes were designed with inosine strategically positioned to complement ...

Cytosine methylation and human cancer

Current Opinion in Oncology, 2000
Abnormalities of genomic methylation patterns have been attributed a role in carcinogenesis since the early 1980s, when large-scale demethylation of the genome was thought be an early event in multistep colorectal carcinogenesis. In the 1990s, local de novo methylation (with or without global demethylation) at tumor suppressor loci was held to be ...
