De novo or Salvage? Nucleotide Availability as a Driver of Bacterial Adaptation and Virulence

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Bacterial pathogens survive in different host environments by switching between making nucleotides by de novo synthesis and scavenging them from the host. This flexibility supports growth and virulence making nucleotide metabolism an attractive therapeutic target.

Nucleotide Metabolism in Health and Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Nucleotide metabolism, including de novo synthesis, salvage pathways, and catabolism, when dysregulated contributes to cancer, immune disorders, metabolic and urological diseases, and radiation injury. Metabolites such as adenosine, cGAMP, NAD, and cAMP and enzymes like RNR are promising therapeutic targets and biomarkers.

Metabolic Signatures of Aging and Gametogenesis in Hydra oligactis

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 8, August 2026.
Hydra oligactis undergoes cold‐induced sexual differentiation and aging, culminating in death. GC–MS‐based metabolite profiling revealed signatures of gametogenesis, for example, polyamine accumulation, and of aging, such as loss of cytoprotection and neurotransmitter function, including taurine depletion.

Development and analytical validation of a targeted short‐read next generation sequencing‐based pharmacogenetic panel for comprehensive variant detection

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 16, Page 4735-4760, August 2026.
Abstract Background and Purpose Genomic profiling of patients for genetic variants that modify the effect of specific medications has many benefits, including the possibility of avoiding toxicities and ensuring an adequate effect of the medication. Our intention was to develop a comprehensive, high‐quality pharmacogenetic test panel for clinical use ...
