Cytotoxic T-Cell Immunity to Influenza
In a study designed to determine whether cytotoxic T lymphocytes contribute to immunity against influenza virus infection, we inoculated 63 volunteers intranasally with live unattenuated influenza A/Munich/1/79 virus. Over the next seven days clinical observations were made, and the amount of virus shed was measured.

The immune system is a complex arrangement of cells and molecules that preserve the integrity of the organism by elimination of all elements judged dangerous. Within the immune system, a humoral and a cellular as well as an innate and an adaptive arm can be differentiated.

Cytotoxic T cells are able to efficiently eliminate cancer cells by additive cytotoxicity [PDF]
AbstractLethal hit delivery by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) towards B lymphoma cells occurs as a binary, “yes/no” process. In non-hematologic solid tumors, however, CTL often fail to kill target cells during 1:1 conjugation. Here we describe a mechanism of “additive cytotoxicity” by which time-dependent integration of sublethal damage events ...

Heterogeneity of memory T cells in aging
Immune memory is a requisite and remarkable property of the immune system and is the biological foundation of the success of vaccinations in reducing morbidity from infectious diseases.

Cytotoxic CD4+ T cells (CD4-CTLs) show the presence of cytolytic granules, which include the enzymes granzyme and perforin. The cells have a pathogenic and protective role in various diseases, including cancer, viral infection, and autoimmune disease. In

Autophagy induced macrophages by α-alumina(α-AL2O3) conjugated cysteine peptidase, enhances the cytotoxic activity of CD8+ T lymphocytes against Leishmania major [PDF]
Introduction: Induction of a protective immune response against Leishmania major requires the activation of both TH1 and CD8+ T lymphocytes. Because L. major is an intra-phagosomal parasite, its antigens do not have access to MHC-I.

Cytotoxic CD4 T cells in the mucosa and in cancer
CD4 T cells were initially described as helper cells that promote either the cellular immune response (Th1 cells) or the humoral immune response (Th2 cells).

Prevention of cytotoxic T cell escape using a heteroclitic subdominant viral T cell determinant. [PDF]
High affinity antigen-specific T cells play a critical role during protective immune responses. Epitope enhancement can elicit more potent T cell responses and can subsequently lead to a stronger memory pool; however, the molecular basis of such ...
