Joint recognition by cytotoxic T cells of inactivated Sendai virus and products of the major histocompatibility complex

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1977
Cytotoxic T cells specific for Sendai virus were generated by culturing murine spleen cells in vitro together with UV-inactivated Sendai virus. In vivo immunization of donor mice with UV-inactivated Sendai virus resulted in an in vitro secondary response

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.

Effects of moderate-protein and high-protein diets, including mealworm meal or poultry by-product meal, on immunological variables in healthy adult dogs

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Background Insect meals are increasingly being used as an ingredient in diets for dogs. However, little is known about their effects on the immune function of the animals.

Multiscale model for the effects of adaptive immunity suppression on the viral therapy of cancer

open access: yes, 2013
Oncolytic virotherapy - the use of viruses that specifically kill tumor cells - is an innovative and highly promising route for treating cancer. However, its therapeutic outcomes are mainly impaired by the host immune response to the viral infection.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...
