5α-Oleandrin reduce Bcl-2 protein and increase Bax protein expression on Hela cervical cancer cell

open access: yesUniversa Medicina, 2017
BACKGROUND The leaves of Nerium indicum Mill. have been utilized traditionally to cure cancer. By using Bioassay guided extraction and isolation method, three compounds (NiO-1, NiO-2, NiO-3) were isolated from an active fraction of the CHCl3 extract of ...

Using thymine-18 for enhancing dose delivery and localizing the Bragg peak in proton-beam therapy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Therapeutic protons acting on O18-substituted thymidine increase cytotoxicity in radio-resistant human cancer cells. We consider here the physics behind the irradiation during proton beam therapy and diagnosis using O18-enriched thymine in DNA, with attention to the effect of the presence of thymine-18 on cancer cell death.

FoxO1 signaling in B cell malignancies and its therapeutic targeting

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FoxO1 has context‐specific tumor suppressor or oncogenic character in myeloid and B cell malignancies. This includes tumor‐promoting properties such as stemness maintenance and DNA damage tolerance in acute leukemias, or regulation of cell proliferation and survival, or migration in mature B cell malignancies.

Optimal control of cytotoxic and antiangiogenic therapies on prostate cancer growth [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Prostate cancer can be lethal in advanced stages, for which chemotherapy may become the only viable therapeutic option. While there is no clear clinical management strategy fitting all patients, cytotoxic chemotherapy with docetaxel is currently regarded as the gold standard.

Comparison of Cytotoxicity Evaluation of Anticancer Drugs between Real-Time Cell Analysis and CCK-8 Method

open access: yesACS Omega, 2019
Critical cytotoxicity evaluation of pharmaceuticals is necessary for the clinical practice of chemotherapy. To quantitatively evaluate cell viability, currently there are two main types of sensitive methods including real-time cell analysis (RTCA) and ...

Diphthamide synthesis is linked to the eEF2‐client chaperone machinery

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The diphthamide modification of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 2 (eEF2) is important for accurate protein synthesis. We addressed the potential coordination of de novo eEF2 synthesis with simultaneous or subsequent diphthamide modification. Our work reveals that the co‐chaperones Hgh1 and Cpr7, which are known to support folding of nascent ...

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...
