An Update: Enzymatic Synthesis for Industrial Applications
Biocatalysis has become a sustainable and cost‐competitive alternative to established chemical synthesis, enabling the enzyme‐based production of not only commodity chemicals but (non‐natural) amino acids, (rare) sugars, as well as synthetic nucleotides.

Sulfonamides identified as plant immune-priming compounds in high-throughput chemical screening increase disease resistance in Arabidopsis thaliana [PDF]
Plant activators are agrochemicals that protect crops from diseases by activating the plant immune system. To isolate lead compounds for use as practical plant activators, we screened two different chemical libraries composed of various bioactive ...

Membrane-bound glycerol dehydrogenase catalyzes oxidation of D-pentonates to 4-keto-D-pentonates, D-fructose to 5-keto-D-fructose, and D-psicose to 5-keto-D-psicose [PDF]
Abstract A novel oxidation of D-pentonates to 4-keto-D-pentonates was analyzed with Gluconobacter thailandicus NBRC 3258. D-Pentonate 4-dehydrogenase activity in the membrane fraction was readily inactivated by EDTA and it was reactivated by the addition of PQQ and Ca2+. D-Pentonate 4-dehydrogenase was purified to two different subunits,

Conversion of xylan by recyclable spores of Bacillus subtilis displaying thermophilic enzymes [PDF]
Background: The Bacillus subtilis spore has long been used to display antigens and enzymes. Spore display can be accomplished by a recombinant and a non-recombinant approach, with the latter proved more efficient than the recombinant one.

Crystal structure of 6-deoxy-α-l-psicofuranose
The title compound, C6H12O5, was crystallized from an aqueous solution of 6-deoxy-l-psicose (6-deoxy-l-allulose, (3S,4S,5S)-1,3,4,5-tetrahydroxyhexan-2-one), and the molecule was confirmed as α-furanose with a 3T4 (or E4) conformation, which is a ...
