Antipenicillinase in the Serum of Dairy Cows [PDF]
Serum from dairy cows was tested for inhibitory effect on penicillinase from a penicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strain of mastitic origin. Among cows with subclinical mastitis caused by penicillin-resistant S. aureus there was a significantly higher frequency of individuals with penicillinajse-inhibiting serum than among healthy cows.

Silage review: Silage feeding management: Silage characteristics and dairy cow feeding behavior.
Feeding environment and feed accessibility influence the dairy cow's response to the ration and forage composition. Fiber content, physical form, and fermentability influence feeding behavior, feed intake, and overall cow metabolic and lactational ...

Molecular evaluation of Cryptosporidium spp. among breeding calves of Lorestan province Western Iran
Cryptosporidium is a zoonotic protozoan common to humans and domestic animals To detect Cryptosporidium species, specific primers of SAM‐1 gene and commercial master mix were used for PCR Nine samples (5%) were positive for Cryptosporidium species by PCR method. Abstract Background Cryptosporidium spp.

Invited review: Sphingolipid biology in the dairy cow: The emerging role of ceramide.
The physiological control of lactation through coordinated adaptations is of fundamental importance for mammalian neonatal life. The putative actions of reduced insulin sensitivity and responsiveness and enhanced adipose tissue lipolysis spare glucose ...

In this study, we supplemented the diet of breeding sows either with omega‐6 (control) or omega‐3 (experimental) polyunsaturated fatty acids and examined their effects on the antioxidant system and hormone levels of the animals. In the blood levels of molecules indicating oxidative stress we experienced slight changes, but the feeding of omega‐3 fatty ...

Machine Learning Approaches to Predict and Detect Early-Onset of Digital Dermatitis in Dairy Cows using Sensor Data [PDF]
The aim of this study was to employ machine learning algorithms based on sensor behavior data for (1) early-onset detection of digital dermatitis (DD); and (2) DD prediction in dairy cows. With the ultimate goal to set-up early warning tools for DD prediction, which would than allow a better monitoring and management of DD under commercial settings ...

Animal board invited review: Dairy cow lameness expenditures, losses and total cost.
Lameness is one of the most costly dairy cow diseases, yet adoption of lameness prevention strategies remains low. Low lameness prevention adoption might be attributable to a lack of understanding regarding total lameness costs.

Alternatives to soya for dairy cows: What are the alternatives to soya for dairy cows?
Soybean meal is considered the gold standard for supporting high milk yields in dairy cows. However, it is falling out of favour with milk processors, consumers and dairy farmers for many reasons. Environmental concerns around how imported soybean is produced, a desire to reduce the carbon footprint of milk, and pressure from milk buyers means that ...
