Dantrolene sodium: Effects of smooth muscle

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1978
The effects of dantrolene sodium on smooth muscle were evaluated in vitro using the guinea pig ileum and the guinea pig vas deferens preparations. Dantrolene irreversibly decreased the strength of the responses of the ileum to acetylcholine, histamine, potassium chloride and electrical stimulation.

Management of lethal catatonia with dantrolene sodium

Critical Care Medicine, 1991
Lethal catatonia, a life-threatening, febrile neuropsychiatric disorder, was reported before the introduction of modern psychopharmacologic treatment. Kraepelin (1) discussed this disorder as a syndrome that comprises a characteristic cluster of symptoms, such as catalepsy, negativism, posturing ...

Dantrolene sodium and hepatic injury

Neurology, 1990
This is a report on hepatic adverse events associated with dantrolene therapy. All cases reported to the manufacturer are included, from all sources, through 1987. Of 122 cases containing sufficient data to analyze, 47 patients had asymptomatic transaminase elevations, 12 had additional mild (less than or equal to 2.5 mg/dl) hyperbilirubinemia, 36 had ...

Ineffectiveness of dantrolene sodium in the treatment of heatstroke

Critical Care Medicine, 1991
To determine the efficacy of dantrolene sodium in the treatment of heatstroke.Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.Heatstroke center in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.Fifty-two adult patients with heatstroke.Patients were assigned to receive either dantrolene sodium (2 mg/kg body weight iv) or placebo.

Dantrolene sodium and fatigue of long duration

Muscle & Nerve, 1992
AbstractA long‐lasting imparment of muscular force generation follows fatiguing exercise (fatigue of long duration), the physiological basis of which is not well understood. To investigate the role of reduced calcium release in longlasting fatigue, we examined the effects of dantrolene sodium, which selectively decreases calcium release from the ...

Topical hyalubilosomes of dantrolene sodium as muscle targeted nanocarrier for muscle spasms: fabrication, ex-vivo permeation and behavioral animal model

Pharmaceutical development and technology (Print)
Topical muscle relaxants are gaining interest in pharmaceuticals. Dantrolene sodium (DS), an FDA-approved relaxant targeting ryanodine receptors, is limited in topical use by poor physicochemical properties, delayed onset, and hepatotoxicity.

Use of dantrolene sodium in external sphincter spasm

Urology, 1976
In various neurologic and non-neurologic diseases inappropriate hypertonicity of the external sphincter during micturition may cause outlet obstruction. Heretofore therapy for these disorders has been surgical: pudenal neurectomy or external sphincterotomy. These procedures are not without complication (incontinence, impotence, hemorrhage).

Prevention of recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis by dantrolene sodium

Muscle & Nerve, 1987
AbstractA patient with recurrent attacks of exertional rhabdomyolysis and easy fatiguability was treated with dantrolene sodium. She experienced a complete prevention of myoglobinuric attacks and gained a better exercise tolerance. Biochemical findings in this patient suggest a loosely coupled oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria.
