Low levels of tumor suppressor miR-3619 in plasma contribute to malignant outcomes and a target for nucleic acid therapy in esophageal cancer

open access: yesScientific Reports
Recent studies indicate that reduced levels of certain tumor-suppressing microRNAs (miRNAs) circulating in the blood are linked to tumor progression and poor prognosis across various types of malignancies.

Diversity Patterns of Domestic Herbivore Viruses in China Reveal Transmission Dynamics with Disease Management Implications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study performs pan‐viromic profiling of 14,529 samples from 5,710 domestic herbivores across five Chinese provinces, establishing the DhCN‐Virome (1,085,360 viral metagenomes). It reveals species/sample‐specific viromic signatures and cross‐species transmission dynamics, aiding unified disease control.

Hypofractionated Radiotherapy Induces ISG15+MHC‐I+ Neutrophils to Augment Anti‐Tumor Immunity and Prime Immune Checkpoint Blockade Responses in Rectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Our previous clinical trials had demonstrated that neoadjuvant hypofractionated radiotherapy (HFRT) combined with immunotherapy yields promising clinical outcomes in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). However, this combined modality benefits only a subset of patients, highlighting the need to uncover the mechanisms underlying how ...

Streptomyces turgidiscabies Secretes a Novel Virulence Protein, Nec1, Which Facilitates Infection

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2007
Emergence of new, economically important plant-pathogenic species in the mostly saprophytic genus Streptomyces involves acquisition of a large, mobile pathogenicity island (PAI). Biosynthetic genes for a phytotoxin, thaxtomin A, are contained on this PAI.

Multi‐Enzyme Mimetic Molybdenum Nitride Nanozymes Reshape Subgingival Microenvironment for Synergistic Periodontitis Therapy via ROS Regulation and Microbiome Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease initiated and sustained by plaque microorganisms and host immune response, remains an intractable oral disease and a leading cause of tooth loss worldwide. Traditional mechanical debridement and adjunctive antibiotic or antiseptic therapy often shows limited efficacy due to the complex anatomical ...

The concept of folic acid supplementation and its role in prevention of neural tube defect among pregnant women: PRISMA

open access: yesMedicine
Folic acid is the synthetic form of vitamin B9, found in supplements and fortified foods, while folate occurs naturally in foods. Folic acid and its derivatives are extremely important in the synthesis of nucleic acids (DNA and ribose nucleic acid [RNA])

A Functionally Conserved Enhancer is Critical for PGC1A Expression and Thermogenesis in Brown Fat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An evolutionarily conserved enhancer controls PGC1A expression and thermogenic activation in brown adipose tissue. Integrative multi‐omics analyses identify two BAT‐specific enhancers, with PGC1A‐En1 functioning as the dominant regulatory element that maintains thermogenic capacity across species.

No wisdom in the crowd: genome annotation at the time of big data - current status and future prospects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Science and engineering rely on the accumulation and dissemination of knowledge to make discoveries and create new designs. Discovery-driven genome research rests on knowledge passed on via gene annotations.

Delivery of Pleckstrin‐Homology Domains Suppresses PI3K/Akt Signaling and Breast Cancer Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current therapies curb tumor growth but not metastasis. Obscurin, a giant metastasis suppressor lost in breast cancer, restrains PI3K/Akt signaling but is impractical to restore. We deploy a mini‐obscurin, comprising the obscurin‐PH‐domain, which sequesters PI3K‐p85, potently suppressing invasion and metastasis.

3D Chromatin Architecture Provides Insights Into Leaf Trait Variation Among Pear Species

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Three‐dimensional (3D) chromatin architecture plays a fundamental role in eukaryotic gene regulations, its functional significance in perennial fruit trees remains poorly characterized despite extensive applications in crop genomics. Here, we developed high‐resolution (∼5 kb) Hi‐C maps of Pyrus and compared 3D genomic architecture of three ...
