Biopsy-based calibration of T2* magnetic resonance for estimation of liver iron concentration and comparison with R2 Ferriscan. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: There is a need to standardise non-invasive measurements of liver iron concentrations (LIC) so clear inferences can be drawn about body iron levels that are associated with hepatic and extra-hepatic complications of iron overload.

Pengaruh Deferasirox Terhadap Kadar T4 dan TSH Pada B-Thalassemia Mayor dengan Kadar Ferritin Tinggi

open access: yesSari Pediatri, 2016
Latar belakang. Iron overload pada pasien 􀁂-thalassemia mayor terjadi akibat transfusi berulang. Pengendapan besi terjadi terutama di jantung, hati dan kelenjar endokrin.

Impact of iron chelation with deferasirox on telomere length and oxidative stress in hemodialysis patients: A randomized study

open access: yesNefrología
Background: Recent studies have demonstrated the effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of deferasirox in patients in peritoneal dialysis, however, its effect has not been studied in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Objective: To investigate the impact

Drug-induced renal Fanconi syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A number of therapeutic drugs are toxic to the kidney proximal tubule (PT) and can cause the renal Fanconi syndrome (FS). The most frequently implicated drugs are cisplatin, ifosfamide, tenofovir, sodium valproate and aminoglycoside antibiotics, and the ...

A pharmaco-economic evaluation of deferasirox for treating patients with iron overload caused by transfusion-dependent thalassemia in Taiwan

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2013
The newly available iron chelator deferasirox (Exjade, Novartis) is expected to provide better long-term clinical outcomes and improved quality of life for patients with thalassemia than its predecessor, deferoxamine (Desferal, Novartis), because of its ...

Methods and Challenges in Purifying Drug‐Loaded Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EV) have emerged as promising nanocarriers for drug delivery. However, the efficient loading of therapeutic molecules into EV and the subsequent purification of drug‐loaded EV from unloaded drugs remain significant challenges. This review explores the most used methods for EV purification, meaning the separation of drug‐

Pretransplant serum ferritin and C-reactive protein as predictive factors for early bacterial infection after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Although fluoroquinolones or other antibiotics are commonly used to prevent bacterial infections after hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), because of the growing presence of multidrug-resistant microorganisms, it is important to identify patients ...

Acute splenomegaly, haemolysis, and thrombocytopenia following luspatercept initiation in a patient with transfusion‐dependent thalassaemia: A case report

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, Volume 206, Issue 6, Page 1806-1810, June 2025.
Summary Patients with transfusion‐dependent thalassaemia (TDT) require chronic, life‐sustaining red blood cell transfusions, which contribute to iron overload and associated morbidity and mortality. Luspatercept, an inhibitor of the transforming growth factor‐beta pathway, decreases transfusion requirements in a subset of transfusion‐dependent β ...

Bilateral Nuclear Cataract with Deferasirox in a Patient of Beta-thalassemia: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesDelhi Journal of Ophthalmology
We report the case of a 15-year-old child with beta-thalassemia developing bilateral cataracts while receiving deferasirox, a newer iron chelator. She had been taking deferasirox for the past 10 years while receiving monthly blood transfusions.
