Ultrastructural Insights Into a Candidatus Parilichlamydia sp. Infection of Gill Goblet Cells in Greater Amberjack

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite recent genomic studies and increased molecular data, epitheliocystis remains an enigmatic fish disease with no experimental in vitro or in vivo models to aid the advancement of research. In this study, we revert to a classical microscopical approach and screen with the electron microscope the epitheliocystis lesions caused by a Ca ...

Vaccine-Induced Anti-IgE Antibodies Neutralize Free IgE but Fail to Bind and Activate Mast Cell-Displayed IgE. [PDF]

open access: yesAllergy
We investigated the mechanisms by which a previously established VLP‐based anti‐IgE vaccine protects against allergic anaphylaxis. We show that passively administered vaccine‐induced IgGs into allergic mice protects them from anaphylaxis without side effects.

Genetic Susceptibility to Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Aim: The aim of this narrative review was to identify genes carrying risk alleles associated with an increased risk of periodontitis and to place them in a biological context. Methods: The literature was reviewed based on predefined criteria. Results: The identified genes largely fall into functions linking immune response with tissue repair. The genes

Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Response to Influenza in Grey Seals (Halichoerus grypus), a Potential Wild Reservoir

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT RNA viruses are infamous for their ability to cross species barriers, posing threats to global health and security. Influenza A virus (IAV) is naturally found in avian hosts but periodically spills over into marine wildlife. IAV outbreaks occur in the Northwest Atlantic, but grey seals (Halichoerus grypus) appear to be less susceptible to IAV ...

Nitrate Prevents Sjögren's Disease by Modulating T Helper Cells via NF‐κB Pathway Suppression

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by abnormal T helper (Th) cell distribution in the salivary glands (SGs). Although nitrate can regulate immune responses and preserve SGs function, its preventive effects on SjD remain unexplored.
