Ethnomedicinal Practices of the Fabaceae Family in Tanzania: A Systematic Review

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study is aimed at reviewing the ethnomedicinal, phytochemical and pharmacological properties of Fabaceae species used as sources of traditional medications in Tanzania. Using the Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) methodology, a comprehensive review was conducted on Fabaceae species used by Tanzanians through electronic databases such ...

A Novel Derivative of the Natural Agent Deguelin for Cancer Chemoprevention and Therapy [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Prevention Research, 2008
Abstract The natural compound deguelin has promising preventive and therapeutic activity against diverse cancers by directly binding to heat shock protein-90 and thus suppressing its function. Potential side effects of deguelin over a certain dose, however, could be a substantial obstacle to its clinical use. To develop a derivative(s)

A Focus on Natural Autophagy Modulators as Potential Host‐Directed Weapons Against Emerging and Re‐Emerging Viruses

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, Volume 45, Issue 6, Page 1850-1882, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Autophagy is a highly conserved intracellular process involved in maintaining homeostasis and in the degradation of damaged organelles and external pathogens. Nature provides complex and varied reservoirs of scaffolds and chemical entities that may have a pivotal role in the search for new therapeutic leads.

Deguelin down-regulates Akt signaling.

open access: yes, 2013
Hep-2 cells were exposed to deguelin at indicated concentration (10, 25, 50 and 100 µM) for 24 hours, total- and phospho- levels of Akt as well as phosphorylation level of S6K were measured by Western blot using indicated antibodies (A).The association ...

Deguelin promotes apoptosis and inhibits angiogenesis of gastric cancer

open access: yesOncology Reports, 2010
Gastric cancer is often diagnosed in locally advanced or metastatic stages, which preludes a poor prognosis. As only 10% of patients with advanced gastric cancer treated with chemotherapy survive 2 years, new approaches for preventing and controlling the disease are required. We therefore, assessed in gastric cancer cells the chemotherapeutic potential

Guidance on the use of read‐across for chemical safety assessment in food and feed

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Read‐across is a method used in chemical risk assessment to predict the toxicological properties of a target substance by using data from structurally and mechanistically similar substances, known as source substances. EFSA's Scientific Committee has developed an approach for using read‐across in food and feed risk assessment.

Biosynthesis and Characterization of Ag3PO4/SnO2 Nanocomposites for Effective Photocatalytic Degradation of Rhodamine B and Biological Applications

open access: yesJournal of Nanotechnology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The current investigation focuses on the photocatalytic degradation and biological applications of M. sericea leaf extract‐mediated Ag3PO4/SnO2 nanocomposites (NCs). The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized through various characterization techniques to determine their structural and optical properties.

Morphine promotes the malignant biological behavior of non-small cell lung cancer cells through the MOR/Src/mTOR pathway

open access: yesCancer Cell International, 2021
Background Morphine, a µ-opioid receptor (MOR) agonist, has been shown to be related to the activity of cancer cells, and a higher morphine dosage reduces the survival time of patients with lung cancer.

Efficacy and mechanism of action of Deguelin in suppressing metastasis of 4T1 cells [PDF]

open access: yesClinical & Experimental Metastasis, 2013
Cancer related deaths in breast cancer patients are due to metastasis of the disease. Murine 4T1 cells (Murine mammary cancer cell line developed from 6-thioguanine resistant tumor) provide an excellent research tool for metastasis related studies because these cells are highly aggressive and readily metastasize to the lungs.
