Distinctly altered TRPC3 and TRPC6 expression patterns in human Alzheimer's disease cortex and hippocampus

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Divergent remodeling of TRPC channels occurs in Alzheimer's disease, with TRPC3 increased in neurons and reactive astrocytes and TRPC6 reduced in pyramidal neurons. These alterations may contribute to calcium dysregulation, neuroinflammation, and synaptic dysfunction during AD progression.

Investigation of the genetic aetiology of Lewy body diseases with and without dementia

open access: yes
Up to 80% of Parkinson's disease patients develop dementia, but time to dementia varies widely from motor symptom onset. Dementia with Lewy bodies presents with clinical features similar to Parkinson’s disease dementia, but cognitive impairment precedes ...

Lewy bodies are surrounded by granulovacuolar degeneration bodies in dementia with Lewy bodies

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Here, we report Lewy bodies (LBs) to be enriched for tau‐laden granulovacuolar degeneration bodies (GVBs), suggesting a potential mechanistic interface between α‐synuclein and tau pathology in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). Abstract Lewy bodies (LBs), composed primarily of aggregated α‐synuclein (α‐syn), are the pathological hallmark of Lewy body ...

An Ecological and Processual Understanding of Family Resilience in Dementia: A Qualitative Meta‐Synthesis

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Nursing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To explore how family resilience emerges and unfolds in dementia. Design Qualitative meta‐synthesis using thematic synthesis. Data Sources PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, PsycINFO were searched from inception through August 26, 2025. Methods Studies examining family‐level resilience, adaptation or coping in home‐based dementia care using ...

Exploring Theory of Mind abilities in patients with probable idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus

open access: yesJournal of Neuropsychology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigated Theory of Mind (ToM) deficits in patients with suspected idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH), a condition affecting motor, cognitive and autonomic functions. Given the overlap between ToM‐related neural networks and those affected in iNPH, we examined whether ToM impairments are a feature of the disease ...

Associations between apathy and global cognition in a 5‐year follow‐up of individuals with Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesJournal of Neuropsychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Apathy is a common neuropsychiatric symptom in Alzheimer's disease (AD) associated with cognitive and functional impairment. Longitudinal studies have examined the associations between apathy and cognition in AD and other dementias, but more information is needed to understand whether the relationships are consistent longitudinally, and ...

Brain pathology in relation to somatic diseases: Exploring the body–brain crosstalk

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Several somatic diseases have been consistently linked with an increased dementia risk. However, the underlying neuropathological substrates remain poorly characterized. This narrative review aims to summarize evidence on the association between common age‐related somatic conditions (i.e., heart diseases, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, liver

Association of Prodromal Parkinson's Disease‐Like Features in Long COVID With Dream‐Enactment Behaviours

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Emerging evidence links COVID‐19 to the predisposition of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the relationship between long COVID and prodromal PD‐like features remains unclear, particularly in long COVID participants with dream‐enactment behaviours (DEBs) that may be suggestive of possible REM sleep behaviour disorder.
