Functional complexity of hair follicle stem cell niche and therapeutic targeting of niche dysfunction for hair regeneration

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2020
Stem cell activity is subject to non-cell-autonomous regulation from the local microenvironment, or niche. In adaption to varying physiological conditions and the ever-changing external environment, the stem cell niche has evolved with multifunctionality

Androgen-Dependent Beard Dermal Papilla Cells Secrete Autocrine Growth Factor(s) in Response to Testosterone Unlike Scalp Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Androgens stimulate many hair follicles, e.g., beard, but may cause regression on the scalp; occipital areas are considered androgen independent. The mesenchyme-derived dermal papilla that regulates the hair follicle is considered the site of androgen ...

Cancer‐Associated Fibroblasts Promote Glucose Metabolic Reprogramming and Progression of Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer via Exosomal circFAD104‐Mediated Intercellular Communication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CAF‐derived exosomes deliver circFAD104 into TNBC cells, where it acts as a molecular scaffold that bridges the E3 ligase MARCHF8 and PGM1, promoting MARCHF8‐mediated K48‐linked ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of PGM1. Loss of PGM1 redirects glucose‐phosphate flux from glycogen synthesis toward glycolysis, thereby driving stemness, EMT, and ...

Immunocytochemical analysis of cultured dermal papilla cells (DPCs).

open access: yes, 2013
Immunocytochemistry of DPCs using anti-α-SMA antibody (green) was performed (A&B) when cells started to exhibit an aggregative growth behavior, while the other two antibodies were performed on monolayer cultured DPCs.

Use of in vitro human keratinocyte models to study the effect of cooling on chemotherapy drug-induced cytotoxicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A highly distressing side-effect of cancer chemotherapy is chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA). Scalp cooling remains the only treatment for CIA, yet there is no experimental evidence to support the cytoprotective capacity of cooling. We have established

Non‐Invasively Quantitative Raman Imaging for Calculation of Lymphatic Transport Kinetics of Micelles in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Non‐invasively quantitative Raman imaging with stacking‐induced charge transfer‐enhanced Raman scattering (SICTERS) enables accurate measurement of concentrations and pharmacokinetic modeling of lymphatic transport of micelles in mice. This platform allows dynamic analysis of nanoparticle transport and underpins the design of effective lymph node ...

Estrogen leads to reversible hair cycle retardation through inducing premature catagen and maintaining telogen.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Estrogen dysregulation causes hair disorder. Clinical observations have demonstrated that estrogen raises the telogen/anagen ratio and inhibits hair shaft elongation of female scalp hair follicles.

Biomimetic Scaffold‐Based 3D Models for Decoding Cancer Biology and Advancing Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A timeline of the research history of 3D biomimetic scaffold materials and platforms. With advances in biomimetic materials and 3D scaffold technologies, their functional scope has expanded from mimicking basic physical and biochemical properties to increasingly replicating complex pathophysiological processes.

Lipid Metabolic Dysregulation Driven by OSMR Mutations Underlies Amyloidogenesis in Primary Localized Cutaneous Amyloidosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
OSMR mutations disrupt STAT5 signaling and AKR1B10‐mediated lipid metabolism, leading to lipid accumulation and protein aggregation in keratinocytes. This metabolic reprogramming drives amyloid deposition in primary localized cutaneous amyloidosis, revealing a mechanistic link between lipid dysregulation and amyloidogenesis.

Comparison of rat hypertrophic scar models: Caudal tension model with superior pathological consistency

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study compared hypertrophic scar (HS) formation in SD rats at ear, back, and tail sites with or without mechanical tension. The ear model healed spontaneously by day 30. Dorsal full‐thickness excision (1 × 8 cm) produced moderate HS. In contrast, the tail tension model showed the greatest scar thickness, fibroblast density, collagen deposition ...
