β-N-Acetylhexosaminidase Active on Dermatan Sulfate
Enzyme, 1975The dodecasaccharide obtained by treating dermatan sulfate with testicular hyaluronidase, chondroitinase AC, and beta-glucuronidase was incubated with diluted, normal human serum at pH 4.5 or 7.0 followed by chondro-4-sulfatase at pH 7.0. Analyses of the reaction products indicate release of hexosamine but not further degradation of the substrate.

Pharmacological profile of a native dermatan sulfate
Thrombosis Research, 1992We performed different "in vivo" investigations to study the pharmacological properties of a native DS: anti-thrombosis by the stasis model, bleeding potential by tail transection bleeding time and template bleeding time, and profibrinolysis by a growing thrombus model and by an established thrombus model.

Dermatan sulfate as a potential therapeutic agent
General Pharmacology: The Vascular System, 19951. Dermatan sulfate is a linear, sulfated polysaccharide and is a glycosaminoglycan component of several important proteoglycans. This minireview discusses the biosynthesis, structure and biological function of dermatan sulfate proteoglycans. 2.

Solvolytic depolymerization of chondroitin and dermatan sulfates
Carbohydrate Research, 2009It is essential to establish a library of glycosaminoglycan oligosaccharides from the chondroitin and dermatan sulfates to investigate their biological functions and structure-activity relationships (SARs). There are several approaches to obtain oligosaccharides using chemical and enzymatic degradation procedures; however, purification of each ...

Dermatan Sulfate-Reactive Lectin from Chicken Liver
The Journal of Biochemistry, 1985A lectin highly reactive with dermatan sulfate (DS-lectin) was purified from adult chicken liver by gel filtration on Toyopearl HW-55 and subsequent affinity chromatography on new adsorbents which were prepared by immobilizing heparin or dermatan sulfate via the reducing ends on hydrazino-Toyopearl.

Antithrombotic Activity of Avian Crown Dermatan Sulfate
Thrombosis Research, 1999The antithrombotic activity of dermatan sulfate from avian crown with the mean molecular weight of 38000 was compared to those from bovine intestine with the mean molecular weight of 16000 in vivo and in vitro. In an in vitro test, bovine intestine dermatan sulfate exhibited stronger effects on stimulation of heparin cofactor II and activation of Glu ...

Oversulfated dermatan sulfate extracted from Hurler spleen
Analytical Biochemistry, 1968Abstract Oversulfated dermatan sulfate has been found in an aqueous extract of Hurler spleen. It is possible that the deficiency of the protein moiety of the glycosaminoglycan complexes in this disease may allow oversulfation of the carbohydrate polymer, thus contributing to its deposition in various organs.

Dermatan sulfate: Recent structural and activity data
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2010Abstract DS is a natural, complex polysaccharide which plays an important role in cell growth, differentiation, morphogenesis, cell migration, and bacterial/viral infections. Although its clinical use is limited, DS performs interesting biological activities, which should help in the development of DS-based therapeutics, such as drugs for parasitic ...

The Journal of laboratory and clinical medicine, 1990
The anticoagulant, pharmacodynamic, and antithrombotic properties of a low molecular weight dermatan sulfate (molecular weight range 1600 to 8000, peak 4000) were compared with those of unfractionated dermatan sulfate (molecular weight range 12,000 to 45,000, peak 25,000).

Vascular Dermatan Sulfate and Heparin Cofactor II
2010Heparin cofactor II (HCII) is a plasma protease inhibitor of the serpin family that inactivates thrombin by forming a covalent 1:1 complex. The rate of complex formation increases more than 1000-fold in the presence of dermatan sulfate (DS). Endothelial injury allows circulating HCII to enter the vessel wall, where it binds to DS and presumably becomes
