Immunology of Chondroitin/Dermatan Sulfate

1995
Variable substitutions and locations of the sulfate esters along the backbone of chondroitin/dermatan sulfate chains, combined with their carbohydrate structures, present topographies to immune systems which can be recognized as antigenic. This has led to the development of a number of monoclonal antibodies which recognize distinct epitopes in the ...

Dermatan sulfates of normal and scarred fascia

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2001
We evaluated the composition of dermatan sulfates (DS) derived from 23 samples of normal and 23 samples of scarred fascia lata. We analyzed the molecular weight of intact DS chains and the length of chain regions comprising: (1) clusters of L-iduronate-containing disaccharides ("iduronic sections"); (2) clusters of D-glucuronate-containing ...

Dermatan sulfate as a potential therapeutic agent

General Pharmacology: The Vascular System, 1995
1. Dermatan sulfate is a linear, sulfated polysaccharide and is a glycosaminoglycan component of several important proteoglycans. This minireview discusses the biosynthesis, structure and biological function of dermatan sulfate proteoglycans. 2.

Pharmacological profile of a native dermatan sulfate

Thrombosis Research, 1992
We performed different "in vivo" investigations to study the pharmacological properties of a native DS: anti-thrombosis by the stasis model, bleeding potential by tail transection bleeding time and template bleeding time, and profibrinolysis by a growing thrombus model and by an established thrombus model.

Plasmatic dermatan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate determination in mucopolysaccharidoses

Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, 2013
The evaluation of plasmatic galactosaminoglycans, dermatan sulfate (DS) and chondroitin sulfate (CS) can be helpful in the early identification of MPS patients, also considering that primary storage of one type of GAG can lead to secondary accumulation of other lysosomal substrates.

Advances in the Analysis of Chondroitin/Dermatan Sulfate

2006
Publisher Summary Chondroitin/dermatan sulfate (CS/DS) is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) found in extracellular matrix (ECM) and cell surface and participates in various ECM and cell–ECM interactions. It is made from the alternate addition of glucuronic acid (GlcA) and N‐acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc).

Dermatan sulfate and heparan sulfate as a biomarker for mucopolysaccharidosis I

Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, 2010
AbstractMucopolysaccharidosis I (MPS I) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by deficiency of α‐L‐iduronidase leading to accumulation of its catabolic substrates, dermatan sulfate (DS) and heparan sulfate (HS), in lysosomes. This results in progressive multiorgan dysfunction and death in early childhood.

Neutralization of dermatan sulfate and by protamine sulfate and polybrene

Thrombosis Research, 1989
The neutralization of the anticoagulant, anti-thrombin, and bleeding effects of dermatan sulfate (DS), a potential antithrombotic agent, was investigated. Protamine sulfate (PS) and hexadimethrine bromide (Polybrene), which reverse the anticoagulant effect of heparin, also neutralized DS in vitro.

Potential Therapeutic Application of Chondroitin Sulfate/Dermatan Sulfate

Current Drug Discovery Technologies, 2008
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are complex polysaccharides, which play important roles in cell growth, differentiation, morphogenesis, cell migration, and bacterial/viral infections. Major GAGs include heparin (Hep)/heparan sulfate, and chondroitin sulfate (CS)/dermatan sulfate (DS).

Recent advances in the structural biology of chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate

Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 2003
Recent glycobiology studies have suggested fundamental biological functions for chondroitin, chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate, which are widely distributed as glycosaminoglycan sidechains of proteoglycans in the extracellular matrix and at cell surfaces.
