Autoantibodies to desmogleins 1 and 3 in patients with lichen planus

Archives of Dermatological Research, 2017
There is controversy about the role of autoantibodies against desmoglein 1 and 3 (Dsg1 and 3) in the pathogenesis of lichen planus (LP); the authors planned this study to determine the presence of circulating levels of these antibodies in patients with different types of oral LP and to compare that with cutaneous LP and healthy controls.

Pathogenic human monoclonal antibody against desmoglein 3

Clinical Immunology, 2006
Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a potentially fatal autoimmune mucocutaneous disease associated with production of IgG autoantibodies to desmoglein 3 (Dsg3), a 130-kDa epidermal cadherin protein. The binding of pathogenic antibody to Dsg3 on epidermal keratinocytes leads to loss of intercellular adhesion and results in intraepithelial blister formation ...

Protection against Pemphigus Foliaceus by Desmoglein 3 in Neonates

New England Journal of Medicine, 2000
Pemphigus foliaceus is an autoantibody-mediated blistering disease in which antibodies against desmoglein 1 cause loss of adhesion among keratinocytes in the superficial epidermis.1 Desmogleins are transmembrane glycoproteins found in desmosomes, which provide physical connections between cells.

Transgenic rescue of desmoglein 3 null mice with desmoglein 1 to develop a syngeneic mouse model for pemphigus vulgaris

Journal of Dermatological Science, 2011
An active disease mouse model of pemphigus vulgaris (PV) was developed using the adoptive transfer of splenocytes from Dsg3(-/-) mice with a mixed C57BL/6J (B6) and 129/Sv genetic background into B6-Rag2(-/-) mice. Further immunological investigation is needed to resolve the genetic mismatch between host and recipient mice.

Anti‐Desmoglein 3 Avidity Correlates Better With Pemphigus Vulgaris Severity Than Anti‐Desmoglein 3 Concentration

International Journal of Dermatology
ABSTRACT Background Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is caused by immunoglobulin G (IgG) autoantibodies targeting desmoglein 3 (Dsg3) and/or desmoglein 1 (Dsg1). While antibody concentration is routinely used to assess disease activity, the role of antibody avidity in PV monitoring has not been ...

AUTOANTIBODIES TO DESMOGLEIN‑3 IN PATIENTS WITH ACANTHOLYTIC PEMPHIGUS

Dermatology and Venerology
Introduction. Current data on the pathogenesis of acantholytic pemphigus emphasize the important role of desmoglein 3 (Dsg 3) in the initiation of the autoimmune process and the formation of the clinical phenotype of the disease. The aim is to determine the level of circulating antibodies to Dsg3 in patients with different clinical forms of pemphigus ...

Patterns of circulating autoantibodies against desmoglein-1 and desmoglein-3 in the progression of oral lichen planus: A scoping review

Archives of Oral Biology
The potential role of autoantibodies targeting desmosomal proteins, particularly desmoglein 1 (Dsg-1) and desmoglein 3 (Dsg-3), in modulating disease severity and epithelial integrity in oral lichen planus (OLP) remains a subject of growing interest. Distinct patterns of anti-Dsg-1 and anti-Dsg-3 autoantibodies across OLP subtypes may correlate with ...

Influence of intravenous immunoglobulin therapy on autoantibody titers to desmoglein 3 and desmoglein 1 in pemphigus vulgaris.

European journal of dermatology : EJD, 2003
Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune mucocutaneous blistering disease. Recently, patients with mucosal involvement have been described to have autoantibodies to desmoglein 3 (dsg), while patients with mucocutaneous disease have autoantibodies to dsg 1 and dsg 3.
