Interactions between acidified dispersions of milk proteins and dextran or dextran sulfate [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2014
Polysaccharides are often used to stabilize cultured milk products, although the nature of these interactions is not entirely clear. The objective of this study was to investigate phase behavior of milk protein dispersions with added dextran (DX; molecular weight = 2 × 10(6) Da) or dextran sulfate (DS; molecular weight = 1.4 × 10(6) Da) as examples of ...

Optimization of Heparin Monitoring with Anti-FXa Assays and the Impact of Dextran Sulfate for Measuring All Drug Activity

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2021
Heparins, unfractionated or low molecular weight, are permanently in the spotlight of both clinical indications and laboratory monitoring. An accurate drug dosage is necessary for an efficient and safe therapy.

Exploring First Interactions Between Ostreid Herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) and Its Host, Crassostrea gigas: Effects of Specific Antiviral Antibodies and Dextran Sulfate

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Viral entry mechanisms of herpesviruses constitute a highly complex process which implicates several viral glycoproteins and different receptors on the host cell surfaces. This initial infection stage was currently undescribed for Ostreid herpes virus 1 (

Transport of Dextran Sulfates to Rat Livers

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Pharmacology, 1979
Liver subcellular distributions of three different dextran sulfates (DSs) with average molecular weight (AMW) of 3000, 20,000, and 200,000, and sulfur content of 18%, anticoagulants and antilipemic agents, were examined in rats after intravenous administration of 50 mg/kg.

Unique Mode of Antiviral Action of a Marine Alkaloid against Ebola Virus and SARS-CoV-2

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Lamellarin α 20-sulfate is a cell-impenetrable marine alkaloid that can suppress infection that is mediated by the envelope glycoprotein of human immunodeficiency virus type 1.

Effects of the sulfated polysaccharides dextran sulfate and heparin on shrimp immunity and infection by white spot syndrome virus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) and Vibrio parahaemolyticus are major pathogens of the economically important shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, causing white spot syndrome and hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), respectively.

Alleviating Effect and Mechanism of Boletus edulis Extract on Dextran Sodium Sulfate-Induced Enteritis in Mice [PDF]

open access: yesShipin Kexue
This study systematically investigated the alleviating effect and underlying mechanism of Boletus edulis extract on dextran sodium sulfate-induced enterocolitis in mice. An integrated approach combining ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Dextran sulfate enhances the level of an oxidative DNA damage biomarker, 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2 0-deoxyguanosine, in rat colonic mucosa [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) given in drinking water can induce colonic Inflammation and produce colorectal tumors in rodents, although it is not directly genotoxic.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
