Ligase‐Catalyzed Transcription and Reverse Transcription of XNA by T3 DNA Ligase

open access: yesCurrent Protocols, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract The growing utility of xeno‐nucleic acids (XNAs) lies in their ability to extend the reach of genetic chemistry beyond the limits imposed by natural polymers. XNAs, with their diverse chemical backbones, resist enzymatic degradation and yet retain the capacity for sequence‐defined information, and have found broad applications in biotechnology.

Fingerprinting sequence variation in ribosomal DNA of parasites by DGGE [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Probes, 1996
Although there is a tendency for rDNA genes within a species to maintain sequence homogeneity, there can be significant levels of variation among rDNA repeat sequences within populations or individuals of a species as a consequence of mutation mechanisms.

Microbial Communities and Electrochemical Performance of Titanium-Based Anodic Electrodes in a Microbial Fuel Cell [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Four types of titanium (Ti)-based electrodes were tested in the same microbial fuel cell (MFC) anodic compartment. Their electrochemical performances and the dominant microbial communities of the electrode biofilms were compared.

Millimetre‐Scale Stratification of Microbial Communities in Hydrothermal Sediments

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 1, January 2026.
Zooming into the millimetre‐scale spatial distribution of organic molecules in hydrothermally impacted sediments using mass spectrometry imaging reveals a distinct lipid zonation with abrupt transitions at critical redox interfaces. This zonation reflects a pronounced stratification of diverse microbial communities and highlights surprisingly ...

Cell Lysis Method Affects Assessment of Microbial Diversity Based on Ribotyping Analysis

open access: yesMicrobiology Indonesia, 2010
The microbial community in Kawah Hujan, Kamojang, West Java, Indonesia, was analyzed using 16S-rRNA-gene-sequencing combining with denaturing-gradient-gel electrophoresis (DGGE) technique.

Application of Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) To Study the Diversity of Marine Picoeukaryotic Assemblages and Comparison of DGGE with Other Molecular Techniques [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2001
ABSTRACT We used denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) to study the diversity of picoeukaryotes in natural marine assemblages. Two eukaryote-specific primer sets targeting different regions of the 18S rRNA gene were tested. Both primer sets gave a single band when used with algal cultures and complex fingerprints when used with ...

Molecular Responses to Temperature Changes Across Timescales in the Madagascar Ground Gecko (Paroedura picta)

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 2, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Short‐term responses to temperature stress, such as heat waves and long‐term acclimation to temperature changes, including seasonal shifts, are expected to be mediated by distinct molecular pathways. However, in ectotherms, such as reptiles, the effects of exposure duration on molecular responses to temperature change remain unclear.

Comparison of DNA extraction kits for PCR-DGGE analysis of human intestinal microbial communities from fecal specimens

open access: yesNutrition Journal, 2010
Background The influence of diet on intestinal microflora has been investigated mainly using conventional microbiological approaches. Although these studies have advanced knowledge on human intestinal microflora, it is imperative that new methods are ...

Ultraconserved elements support a new tribal‐level classification for Australasian endemic dung beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae)

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January‐March 2026.
Phylogenomic data obtained through sequencing ultraconserved elements are used to examine tribal classification in the subfamily Scarabaeinae with the aim of stabilizing classification of 32 unplaced Australasian genera. Phylogenies were generated from a 245,546 base pair alignment comprised of 1092 loci that included terminals representing 160 species

Insights into aerobic microbial community in the Kamniška Bistrica river sediment with culture-dependent and molecular biology approach

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Slovenica, 2014
River systems are exposed to anthropogenic disturbances, including chemical pollution and eutrophication. They may affect a structure and diversity of microbial communities in river sediment.
