A topological exploration of convergence/divergence of human‐mediated and algorithmically mediated pedagogy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, EarlyView.
We explore a topological model that situates teachers' agency as a constituent element within the convergent and divergent dynamics at the intersection of human‐mediated and algorithmically mediated pedagogies. Ubiquitous AI in education is designed to simulate, emulate and automate human processes and behaviours through datafication.

Supporting learner agency in collaborative writing with generative AI

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract To support learner agency in LLM‐powered writing environments, this research introduces a new interface that integrates two key features: an Argument Outline and a Similarity Viewer. These features were designed to enhance intentionality in writing and self‐monitoring of reliance on AI‐generated suggestions.

A dialogic theoretical foundation for integrating generative AI into pedagogical design

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, EarlyView.
Generative AI presents a profound challenge to the existing structures and purposes of education. It forces us to reconsider not only how we teach and learn but also, more fundamentally, what education is for. This conceptual paper argues that, in order to integrate AI into education in a way that can meet the major challenges facing humanity, ranging ...

Can Generative AI support the learning agency of students with disability? A case study of an Australian secondary school

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite increasing interest in using Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in education, little is known about how students with disability engage with GenAI to support their own learning. This study investigates the potential of ChatGPT to support the learning agency of adolescents with disability in a secondary science classroom in ...
