Learning and distraction: Evidence for cognitive load interference in medical education

open access: yesMedical Education, Volume 60, Issue 6, Page 676-684, June 2026.
Abstract Background Distraction may increase cognitive load. Cues may decrease it. But what happens if we cue in distracted learning environments? Does effective instruction buffer against the detrimental effects of distraction? Methods In a 2 × 2 factorial experiment, 117 s–year medical students without prior knowledge watched a standardised ...

The external didactic transposition of mathematics at university level: dilemmas and challenges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We develop the idea that research on university mathematics education needs to more systematically address the external didactic transposition. After outlining existing research that goes more or less in this direction, we comment on the why and how this direction could be pursued by ATD research on UME.

Application of Digital, Web‐Based, and Online Strategies in Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Training: A Scoping Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Ultrasound is a commonly used modality in healthcare. Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is performed at the patient's bedside with many purported benefits. Aims Given its increasingly popularity, this scoping review examined the role of digital, web‐based, and online educational strategies for POCUS. Methods Adhering to Joanna Briggs

Deterministic Entanglement as a Prerequisite for Scalable Quantum Photonic Resource State Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2026.
Scalable photonic quantum computing requires entanglement generated deterministically. Simple combinatorics shows that probabilistic fusion causes exponential overheads, while 1D entangled‑state sources offer orders‑of‑magnitude higher success probabilities than Bell pairs or single photons.

The Epistemic Generativity of Using a Model of a Big Idea

open access: yesScience Education, Volume 110, Issue 3, Page 803-825, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Science instruction should involve learners in generating and warranting ideas, what we call epistemic generation. In modeling instruction, epistemic generation should be achieved by coordinating a model structure with the experienced world in reciprocal directions denoted as developing models and using models. In the former, a model structure

The co-design of scenarios for a didactic-based E-learning system viewed as an adaptive virtual document

open access: yes, 2006
The design and engineering of E-learning systems must be considered as a transdisciplinary problem requiring the integration of different scientific approaches.
