Thermodynamic and Kinetic Study of Diels–Alder Reaction between Furfuryl Alcohol and N-Hydroxymaleimides—An Assessment for Materials Application

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
The study of Diels−Alder reactions in materials science is of increasing interest. The main reason for that is the potential thermoreversibility of the reaction.

Focused Ultrasound-Mediated Release of Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 from Hydrogels for Bone Regeneration

open access: yesGels
An ultrasound-responsive hydrogel system was developed that provides on-demand release when stimulated by focused ultrasound (fUS). Diels–Alder cycloadducts crosslinked polyethylene glycol (PEG) hydrogels and underwent a retrograde Diels–Alder reaction ...

Ionic-Liquid-Mediated MacMillan’s Catalyst for Diels-Alder Reaction

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2013
Ionic liquids were used to enhance as well as recycle the MacMillan's catalyst 1 for the Diels-Alder reaction. Using our developed protocol, Diels-Alder adducts were obtained in good yields and selectivities along the 6 times recycling of MacMillan's ...

Adsorption‐Engineered Hydrocarbon Ionomers for Durable Proton‐Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrocarbon ionomers suffer from oxidation‐driven interfacial degradation in PEM fuel cell cathodes, leading to catalyst instability. Here, adsorption‐engineered poly(fluorene) ionomers decouple interfacial anchoring from oxidative degradation, enabling strong catalyst–ionomer interactions while resisting electrochemical oxidation.

S‐Nitrosothiols as Thiol‐Protecting Groups for Controlled Thiol‐Maleimide Crosslinking of Homogeneous Soft Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Rapid thiol‐maleimide addition frequently outpaces mixing, resulting in heterogeneous hydrogels. S‐nitrosothiols act as thiol‐protecting groups, allowing uniform mixing with maleimide‐functionalized polymers before gelation. Sodium thiosulfate or sodium ascorbate then regenerates thiols on demand, triggering controlled thiol‐maleimide crosslinking ...
