Evaluation of emmer wheat genetics resources aimed at dietary food production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Emmer wheat cultivated by organic farmers is used as a component of some bio (organic) food products. Its positive influence on consumer health is caused by grain composition.

Dietary Baicalin Supplementation Can Enhance the Growth Performance of Weaned Piglets and Maintain the Intestinal Barrier Integrity

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This research innovatively illustrates baicalin’s multifaceted mechanisms in enhancing piglets’ intestinal health: modulating bile acid metabolism via probiotics, reinforcing tight junction proteins (ZO‐1/claudin), suppressing TLR4/NF‐κB‐mediated inflammation, whereas promoting growth and reducing diarrhea.

Influence of Dietary Change from a Niacin- and Protein-free Diet to a Niacin-free 30% Casein Diet on Niacin Formation from Tryptophan in Rats

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1985
Niacin formation from tryptophan was compared in two groups of rats, one fed a niacin- and protein-free diet (group A) and the other, niacin-free 30% casein diet (group B) for one day after preliminary feeding of a niacin- and protein-free diet for three days (experiment I).

A Computational Approach for Identifying Plant-Based Foods for Addressing Vitamin Deficiency Diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Vitamins are nutrients that are essential to human health, and deficiencies have been shown to cause severe diseases. In this study, a computational approach was used to identify vitamin deficiency diseases and plant-based foods with vitamin content ...

Dietary Mannan‐Rich Fractions Attenuate Weaning Stress in Piglets via Modulating Gut Microbiota and TLR5/NF‐κB Signaling

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study aimed to investigate the potential of a mannan‐rich fraction (MRF) as a dietary intervention to alleviate weaning stress in piglets. Our results revealed that MRF could alleviate weaning stress by modulating the gut microbiota and the TLR5/NF‐κB signaling pathway, offering a novel and sustainable alternative to antibiotic use in swine ...

Repeatability and validity of a food frequency questionnaire in free-living older people in relation to cognitive function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Objectives: To determine the repeatability and validity of a self-administered, 175-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) in free-living older people and to assess whether these are influenced by cognitive function.

Effect of Cyclic Heat Exposure on the Growth Performance and Metabolism of Broilers Fed Palm Kernel Meal

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The aim of our study is to evaluate the interaction between HS and the incorporation of PKM in broiler chicken diets, as well as its effect on growth performance and metabolism. Based on the results obtained, PKM supplementation failed to mitigate the adverse effects of heat stress in broiler chickens. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the

The Effect of Dietary Tryptophan and Niacin Levels on Broiler Breeder Pullets ,

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1975
A total of 1500 pullets and 300 cockerels were obtained at one-day of age and reared to six weeks on a commercial-type diet. At six weeks of age, birds were fed one of the following: Diets 1, 2 and 3 contained 0.150 percent tryptophan and no added niacin, 28 mg. added niacin and 250 mg. added niacin per kg. of diet, respectively.

High dietary niacin intake is associated with decreased chromosome translocation frequency in airline pilots [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Nutrition, 2010
Experimental studies suggest that B vitamins such as niacin, folate, riboflavin, vitamin B6and vitamin B12may protect against DNA damage induced by ionising radiation (IR). However, to date, data from IR-exposed human populations are not available.

Hepatotoxicity of Nonesterified Fatty Acids to Dairy Cows: Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Prospective Solutions

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Unregulated inflammation increases non‐esterified fatty acids (NEFAs), and triggers multi‐pathway hepatocyte damage including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and metabolic disorders in dairy cows. ABSTRACT Circulating concentrations of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFAs) are elevated due to lipid mobilization from adipose tissue in ...
