The Analysis of Transitional or Caudal Vertebrae Is Equally Suitable to Determine the Optimal Dietary Phosphorus Intake to Ensure Skeletal Health and Prevent Phosphorus Waste in Salmonid Aquaculture

open access: yesFishes
A prolonged dietary phosphorus (P) deficiency can result in reduced growth and vertebral deformities in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Severe deformities can impair swimming and lead to chronic stress associated with muscular fibrotic scarring ...

Phosphorus Consumption Within 1 Hour Prior to Blood Work and Associated Serum Levels of Phosphate, Calcium, and PTH in Adult Patients Receiving Hemodialysis Treatment

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease, 2019
Background: While dietary intake is known to influence serum markers of chronic kidney disease–mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD), the effects of recent food and beverage intake, particularly phosphorus consumption on these serum markers (phosphate ...

The Effects of Dietary Phosphorus on the Growth Performance and Phosphorus Excretion of Dairy Heifers [PDF]

open access: yesAsian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2015
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of reducing dietary phosphorus (P) on the frame size, udder traits, blood parameters and nutrient digestibility coefficient in 8- to 10-month-old Holstein heifers. Forty-five heifers were divided into 15 blocks according to the mo of age and were randomly assigned one of three dietary ...

Developmental differences in cortical bone structure in chimpanzee and human femora reflect early locomotor independence in humans

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The cortical bone structure of long bone diaphyses changes throughout growth via skeletal modeling and has important implications for bone strength and structural integrity. Ontogenetic trends in diaphyseal structure have been identified in both chimpanzees and humans but it is not yet clear how these trends compare given notable differences ...

First reports on the relationship between the eggshell and bone mineralization in Rhinoclemmys punctularia punctularia embryos

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Composed of various minerals, the eggshell provides ideal conditions for embryonic development, and understanding its composition and structure is essential for clarifying its relationship with bone formation. This study characterized the structure and mineral profile of the Rhinoclemmys punctularia punctularia eggshell in relation to ...

445 The effects of dietary fiber based on fermentability and viscosity on phosphorus absorption and the gut microbiome in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Science, 2023
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: To compare the effects of dietary fiber supplementation based on fermentability and viscosity on phosphorus fractional absorption and the gut microbiome in a rat model of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD ...

Dietary Mannan‐Rich Fractions Attenuate Weaning Stress in Piglets via Modulating Gut Microbiota and TLR5/NF‐κB Signaling

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study aimed to investigate the potential of a mannan‐rich fraction (MRF) as a dietary intervention to alleviate weaning stress in piglets. Our results revealed that MRF could alleviate weaning stress by modulating the gut microbiota and the TLR5/NF‐κB signaling pathway, offering a novel and sustainable alternative to antibiotic use in swine ...

The importance of nutritional intervention by dietitians for hyperphosphatemia in maintained hemodialysis patients

open access: yesRenal Replacement Therapy, 2017
Hyperphosphatemia is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and mortality in individuals with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Thus, it represents a potential target for interventions to improve clinical outcomes in ESKD.

Reduced Dietary Phosphorus Levels for Layers

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1995
Two experiments were undertaken to study the response of White Leghorn hens to low dietary phosphorus levels from 18 to 64 wk of age. A corn-soybean meal diet containing .2% available phosphorus gave similar performance, up to 32 wk of age, as a similar control diet containing .4% available phosphorus.

Effect of dietary phosphorus on intestinal phosphorus absorption in growing Holstein steers [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2015
The effect of dietary P intake on intestinal P absorption was evaluated in growing Holstein steers. Diets varying in P content (0.15, 0.27, 0.36, and 0.45%, DM basis) were fed to 8 steers (174±10kg of BW) fitted with permanent duodenal and ileal cannulas in a replicated 4×4 Latin square with 14-d periods.
