Production of cadiotonic glycosides in Digitalis purpurea using temporary immersion systems
Digitalis purpurea, is an example of cardiotonic drug. Digoxin and digitoxin are glycosides produced by this plant which are cardiac stimulants with a wide use in the treatment of heart problems.

THE ASSAY OF TINCTURE OF DIGITALIS AND OF THE GLYCOSIDES OF DIGITALIS PURPUREA
Summary 8 samples of tincture of digitalis have been compared chemically and biologically with a tincture prepared from the standard preparation of digitalis. The results of the frog assays do not agree with those of the chemical assays using the 3:5-dinitrobenzoic acid reagent.

From WGS to gels: Development and testing of PCR primers targeting toxic Digitalis in support of food safety. [PDF]
Abstract Premise This study capitalized on a library of single‐nucleotide polymorphisms created via whole genome sequencing (WGS) to develop and test a PCR assay for detecting toxic Digitalis species in food products. Complex foods can be difficult to analyze, but safeguarding consumer well‐being and public health necessitates that products regulated ...

Cardenolide-Engineered Extracellular Vesicles Augment Drug Uptake and Cytotoxicity in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Cells. [PDF]
Cardenolide‐functionalized extracellular vesicles enable targeted delivery of the chemotherapeutic doxorubicin to A549 lung cancer cells by binding Na+/K+‐ATPase, which is overexpressed in these cells. Surface‐modified, drug‐loaded EVs exhibit enhanced cytotoxicity compared to unmodified EVs and free drug, suggesting this system may lower the effective

Variation in the chemical profiles of three foxglove species in the central Balkans
The aim of this study was to determine intra- and interspecies variation in the qualitative and quantitative composition of methanol-soluble metabolites in the leaves of three Digitalis species (D. lanata, D. ferruginea, and D.

Comprehensive analysis of alternative splicing in Digitalis purpurea by strand-specific RNA-Seq. [PDF]
Digitalis purpurea (D. purpurea) is one of the most important medicinal plants and is well known in the treatment of heart failure because of the cardiac glycosides that are its main active compounds. However, in the absence of strand specific sequencing

Duckweeds: Model organisms for research on plant sterols and steroids. [PDF]
Duckweeds (Lemnaceae), the fastest‐growing angiosperms and promising vegan protein source, offer a powerful model to address key questions in plant physiology. This article highlights their potential for dissecting the biosynthesis and function of phytosterols, sterol conjugates, brassinosteroids, and specialized steroidal metabolites, such as ...

Endogenous Digitalis-like Factors: An Overview of the History
The sodium pump is a ubiquitous cell surface enzyme, a Na, K ATPase, which maintains ion gradients between cells and the extracellular fluid (ECF). The extracellular domain of this enzyme contains a highly conserved binding site, a receptor for a plant ...
