Eliminating Radiation Resistance of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer by Dihydroartemisinin Through Abrogating Immunity Escaping and Promoting Radiation Sensitivity by Inhibiting PD-L1 Expression

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
Radiation resistance is linked to immune escaping and radiation sensitivity. In this study, we found that the PD-L1 expressions of non-killed tumor cells in NSCLC were enhanced after radiotherapy, and dihydroartemisinin (DHA) could synergistically ...

Combined Transcriptome and Proteome Profiling for Role of pfEMP1 in Antimalarial Mechanism of Action of Dihydroartemisinin

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2021
Malaria parasites induce morphological and biochemical changes in the membranes of parasite-infected red blood cells (iRBCs) for propagation. Artemisinin combination therapies are the first-line antiplasmodials in countries of endemicity.

Hydroxamic Acids as HDAC Inhibitor Drug Leads for Malaria

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Malaria is a global health threat, with an estimated 282 million cases and 610,000 malaria‐associated deaths reported in 2024. Most mortality is due to infection by Plasmodium falciparum parasites, with the highest burden occurring in Sub‐Saharan Africa.

Advances in research on layered double hydroxides for biomedical applications

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are pH‐responsive nanomaterials with broad biomedical applications. This review summarizes LDH synthesis methods and compares their advantages. It highlights LDHs' progress in cancer therapy, including chemo‐photothermal, chemo‐immunotherapy, and photodynamic‐immunotherapy combinations and their potential in bone repair.

Antimalarial activity of thiophenyl- and benzenesulfonyl-dihydroartemisinin [PDF]

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Parasitology, 2005
Each diastereomer of 10-thiophenyl- and 10-benzenesulfonyl-dihydroartemisinin was synthesized from artemisinin in three steps, and screened against chloroquine-resistance and chloroquine-sensitive Plasmodium falciparum. Three of the four tested compounds were found to be effective.

Peptide‐directed nanovehicles enabling tumor‐selective ROS amplification and antitumor immunity

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Cancer cells are vulnerable to oxidative stress, yet exploit immune tolerance to escape destruction. In contrast, their metabolic profile is markedly altered to support rapid proliferation, accompanied by elevated production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Efficacy and safety of artemether-lumefantrine for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria in the setting of three different chemopreventive regimens. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: The burden of malaria remains high for children in parts of Africa despite the use of insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs). Chemoprevention has the potential of reducing the malaria burden; however, limited data exist on the efficacy and ...
