Effect of dietary macronutrients on intestinal cholesterol absorption and endogenous cholesterol synthesis: a randomized crossover trial

open access: yes, 2021
Background and aims: Extensive research showed a diurnal rhythm of endogenous cholesterol synthesis, whereas recent research reported no diurnal rhythm of intestinal cholesterol absorption in males who consumed low-fat meals.

Intracellular and Plasma Membrane Events in Cholesterol Transport and Homeostasis

open access: yesJournal of Lipids, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Cholesterol transport between intracellular compartments proceeds by both energy‐ and non‐energy‐dependent processes. Energy‐dependent vesicular traffic partly contributes to cholesterol flux between endoplasmic reticulum, plasma membrane, and endocytic vesicles.

Altered P450 activity associated with direct selection for fungal azole resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Azole antifungals inhibit CYP51A1-mediated sterol 14α-demethylation and the mechanism(s) of resistance to such compounds in Ustilago maydis were examined.

Cholesterol metabolism during ketoconazole treatment in man.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1988
Ketoconazole, an antifungal antibiotic, inhibits cholesterol synthesis by blocking demethylation of lanosterol. Effects of this inhibition were studied on serum cholesterol, lipoproteins and cholesterol precursors, biliary lipid composition, and fecal ...

RNASET2 Deficiency Induces Hepatocellular Carcinoma Metastasis through Cholesterol‐Triggered MET Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 12, March 27, 2025.
This study elucidates the role of RNASET2 in inhibiting the metastasis of HCC. RNASET2 preferentially cleaves RNA into uridine, which contributes to the salvage synthesis of UTP and the glucuronidation of bile acids, thereby maintaining a balance in cholesterol metabolism. This process is followed by the degradation of MET in the lysosome.

Lipidomics and anti‐trypanosomatid chemotherapy

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 6, Issue 1, December 2017., 2017
Abstract BackgroundTrypanosomatids such as Leishmania, Trypanosoma brucei and Trypanosoma cruzi belong to the order Kinetoplastida and are the source of many significant human and animal diseases. Current treatment is unsatisfactory and is compromised by the rising appearance of drug resistant parasites.

Lipidomics and Metabolomics Reveal Novel Mechanisms of Dyslipidemia Improvement by Dendrobium huoshanense in Mice on a High‐Fat Diet

open access: yesJournal of Food Biochemistry, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Hyperlipidemia is a direct cause of atherosclerosis and can damage the heart, brain, and kidneys, leading to coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular conditions. Dendrobium huoshanense (DH) has been demonstrated to regulate lipid metabolism. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms through which DH prevents lipid metabolism disorders by examining

A Dietary Treatment Improves Cerebral Blood Flow and Brain Connectivity in Aging apoE4 Mice

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
APOE ε4 (apoE4) polymorphism is the main genetic determinant of sporadic Alzheimer’s disease (AD). A dietary approach (Fortasyn) including docosahexaenoic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, uridine, choline, phospholipids, folic acid, vitamins B12, B6, C, and E, and selenium has been proposed for dietary management of AD.

The Potential of Isoprenoids in Adjuvant Cancer Therapy to Reduce Adverse Effects of Statins

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
The mevalonate pathway provides sterols for membrane structure and nonsterol intermediates for the post-translational modification and membrane anchorage of growth-related proteins, including the Ras, Rac, and Rho GTPase family.

A Simulation Study of the Effects of Additive, Multiplicative, Correlated, and Uncorrelated Errors on Principal Component Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Chemometrics, Volume 38, Issue 12, December 2024.
ABSTRACT Measurement errors are ubiquitous in all experimental sciences. Depending on the particular experimental platform used to acquire data, different types of errors are introduced, amounting to an admixture of additive and multiplicative error components that can be uncorrelated or correlated. In this paper, we investigate the effect of different
