Phase 1, placebo-controlled, single ascending dose trial to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and effect on altered states of consciousness of intranasal BPL-003 (5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine benzoate) in healthy participants

Journal of Psychopharmacology
Aims: To investigate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of BPL-003, a novel intranasal benzoate salt formulation of 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT), in healthy participants.

N,N-Dimethyltryptamine: An Endogenous Hallucinogen

1981
Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the biosynthesis, metabolism, pharmacology, and properties of N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), leading to a conclusion that DMT may be a neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain. The identification of DMT and other hallucinogens in man explains the experience of hallucinatory phenomena in general.

Dimethyltryptamine, A Do-It-Yourself Hallucinogenic Drug

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1967
To the Editor:— Almost immediately after the hallucinogenic effects of drugs such as mescaline, LSD, and peyote were made known, legal and medical restrictions were applied. Those nonmedical individuals who were determined to experience the hallucinatory effects sought illegal supply channels. As restrictions became more effective, the availability of

N,N-dimethyltryptamine reduces infarct size and improves functional recovery following transient focal brain ischemia in rats.

Experimental Neurology, 2020
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is an endogenous ligand of the Sigma 1 receptor (Sig-1R) with documented in vitro cytoprotective properties against hypoxia.

Human psychopharmacology of N,N-dimethyltryptamine

Behavioural Brain Research, 1995
We generated dose-response data for the endogenous and ultra-short-acting hallucinogen, N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), in a cohort of experienced hallucinogen users, measuring multiple biological and psychological outcome measures. Subjective responses were quantified with a new rating scale, the HRS, which provided better resolution of dose effects ...

A new metabolic pathway for N,N-dimethyltryptamine

Biological Psychiatry, 1986
N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) undergoes a major structural alteration when added to whole human blood or its red blood cells in vitro. A new high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) peak is present in extracts of these treated tissues. The compound responsible for this peak has been identified by ultraviolet spectrophotometry and by mass spectrometry ...

The biosynthesis of dimethyltryptamine in vivo.

Research communications in chemical pathology and pharmacology, 1977
The in vivo formation of dimethyltryptamine was studied in rabbits, rats and monkeys. When C14-labelled N-methyltryptamine was administered by intravenous injection to rabbits, C14-dimethyltryptamine was found in lung, the principle site of the methyltransferase that biosynthesizes this psychotogen.

Hydroxylation and N-demethylation of N,N-dimethyltryptamine

Experientia, 1959

Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) a Psychedelic

2009
DMT, also known as N,N-dimethyltryptamine, is a naturally-occurring tryptamine and potent psychedelic drug, found not only in many plants, but also in trace amounts in the human body where its natural function is undetermined. Structurally, it is analogous to the neurotransmitter serotonin and other psychedelic tryptamines such as 5-MeO-DMT and 4-HO ...

Neuromodulatory mechanisms of N,N-dimethyltryptamine

Brain Network and Modulation, 2023
N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is the simplest psychedelic tryptamine and is produced naturally by many plant and animal species, including humans. While classical psychedelics, such as lysergic acid diethylamide, or psilocybin, are gaining interest because of their therapeutic potential, DMT has yet to be fully investigated ...
