Modulation of Phenol Oxidation in Cofacial Dyads [PDF]
The presentation of two phenols on a xanthene backbone is akin to the tyrosine dyad (Y[subscript 730] and Y[subscript 731]) of ribonucleotide reductase. X-ray crystallography reveals that the two phenol moieties are cofacially disposed at 4.35 Å.

Farnesyl Diphosphate Synthase Assay
Farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FPS) catalyzes the sequential head-to-tail condensation of isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP, C5) with dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP, C5) and geranyl diphosphate (GPP, C10) to produce farnesyl diphosphate (FPP, C15). This short-chain prenyl diphosphate constitutes a key branch-point of the isoprenoid biosynthetic pathway ...

Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

A Deoxyribonuclease from Calf Spleen. II. Mode of Action [PDF]
When highly polymerized deoxyribonucleic acid is digested with pancreatic DNase and the digest further degraded with phosphodiesterase from intestinal mucose or snake venom, the mononucleotides formed are 5'-phosphates.

Characterisation of a Recombinant Patchoulol Synthase Variant for Biocatalytic Production of Terpenes [PDF]
The patchoulol synthase (PTS) is a multi-product sesquiterpene synthases which is the central enzyme for biosynthesis of patchouli essential oil in the patchouli plant.

Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Mechanism of the Enzymic Reduction of N_2: The Binding of Adenosine 5'-Triphosphate and Cyanide to the N_2-reducing System [PDF]
The in vitro reduction of N_2 is a complex process involving at least six different reactants: two proteins [1,2] for which the names azoferredoxin (AzoFd) and molybdoferredoxin (MoFd) have been proposed[3], an electron source, the electron acceptor, ATP[
