Investigating the Product Profiles and Structural Relationships of New Levansucrases with Conventional and Non-Conventional Substrates [PDF]
The synthesis of complex oligosaccharides is desired for their potential as prebiotics, and their role in the pharmaceutical and food industry. Levansucrase (LS, EC 2.4.1.10), a fructosyl-transferase, can catalyze the synthesis of these compounds. LS acquires a fructosyl residue from a donor molecule and performs a non-Lenoir transfer to an acceptor ...

Conformational Characterization of Ipomotaosides and Their Recognition by COX-1 and 2
The aerial parts of Ipomoea batatas are described herein to produce four new resin glycosides, designated as ipomotaosides A, B, C, and D. Ipomotaoside A was found to present inhibitory activity on both cyclooxygenases.

Chondroitin Sulfate Disaccharides, a Serum Marker for Primary Serous Epithelial Ovarian Cancer
Glycosaminoglycans are long polysaccharidic chains, which are mostly present in connective tissues. Modified GAG expression in tissues surrounding malignant cells has been shown to contribute to tumor progression, aggressive status and metastasis in many

Ungerminated Rice Grains Observed by Femtosecond Pulse Laser Second-Harmonic Generation Microscopy [PDF]
As a demonstration that second-order nonlinear optical microscopy is a powerful tool for rice grain science, we observed second-harmonic generation (SHG) images of amylose-free glutinous rice and amylose-containing nonglutinous rice grains. The images obtained from SHG microscopy and photographs of the iodine-stained starch granules indicate that the ...

Rodlike Complexes of a Polyelectrolyte (Hyaluronan) and a Protein (Lysozyme) observed by SANS [PDF]
We study by Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) the structure of Hyaluronan -Lysozyme complexes. Hyaluronan (HA) is a polysaccharide of 9 nm intrinsic persistence length that bears one negative charge per disaccharide monomer (Mmol = 401.3 g/mol); two molecular weights, Mw = 6000 and 500 000 Da were used.
