Intervertebral Disc Degeneration: Review Article [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Intervertebral disc degeneration is one of the serious problems in vertebral system damage. Symptoms that late detected and similar with other vertebral diseases make this process such a "silent disease".

Sociodemographic Influences on Lumbar Disc Degeneration Severity and the Diagnostic Potential of Disc‑CSF Signal Ratio: Insights from a South East Asia Population Study

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology
Objectives: This study investigates the relationship between lumbar disc degeneration and sociodemographic factors in a Malaysian cohort, focusing on the diagnostic potential of the disc–cerebrospinal fluid signal ratio (DCFR).

The mechanics of disc degeneration from an engineering and computational modelling viewpoint [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The anatomy and microstructure of the spine and in particular the intervertebral disc are intimately linked to how they operate in vivo and how they distribute loads to the adjacent musculature and bony anatomy.

A Multi‐Scale Machine Learning Framework for the Inverse Design of High Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐entropy alloys offer vast potential for various applications, including electrocatalysis; however, their compositional complexity challenges conventional screening. We introduce an inverse‐design framework combining two neural networks to determine optimal compositions and reconstruct nanoparticle geometry from targeted properties and conventional

Spatially Modulated Morphotropic Phase Boundaries in a Compressively Strained Multiferroic Thin Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The coexisting rhombohedral‐like (R′, MA) and tetragonal‐like (T′, MC) monoclinic phases in compressively strained bismuth ferrite thin films exhibit exceptional piezoelectric and magnetic properties. While previous studies have largely focused on probing the morphotropic phase boundaries (MPBs) comprising ordered R′/T′ twins, their self ...

Effect of body mass index and disc degeneration on lumbar biomechanics after unilateral biportal endoscopy–unilateral laminectomy bilateral decompression for lumbar spinal stenosis: a finite element study

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of body mass index (BMI) and disc degeneration on lumbar biomechanics following unilateral biportal endoscopy–unilateral laminectomy bilateral decompression (UBE-ULBD) for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS).MethodsComputed ...

Glissile Interphase Boundaries Enable Collective Phase Switching in Epitaxial Polar Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A triple point is identified in the phase diagram of low‐symmetry epitaxial BiFeO3 thin film along with an extended regime of phase competition associated with a flattened energy landscape. The electromechanical response is shown to be governed by correlated interphase‐boundary motion, including scale‐free avalanche dynamics characteristic of systems ...

Investigation of the Relationship Between Disc Degeneration and Cross-Sectional Area of Deep Extensor Muscles in Patients with Chronic Non-specific Neck Pain [PDF]

open access: yes
Objective: The objective of our research is to analyze the impact of the degree of C4-C5 disc degeneration on the relative cross-sectional area of the deep extensor muscles (R-CSADEs).

Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces
