Glycolysis‐Derived Lactate Induces ACSL4 Expression and Lactylation to Activate Ferroptosis during Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 21, June 5, 2025.
Glycolysis‐derived lactate activates nucleus pulposus cell ferroptosis via Histon H3K18la‐mediated ACSL4 transcription and ACSL4 lactylation and aggravate intervertebral disc degeneration. Inhibiting glycolysis via gene silencing or chemical intervention reduces the production of lactate and ameliorates ferroptosis activation and nucleus pulposus ...

Down syndrome with Alzheimer's disease brains have increased iron and associated lipid peroxidation consistent with ferroptosis

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 21, Issue 6, June 2025.
Cerebral microbleeds result in increased brain iron and lipid peroxidation in DSAD, consistent with ferroptosis as reported for Alzheimer's disease. Aβ; beta‐amyloid peptides, APP; amyloid precursor protein, GCLC; glutathione cysteine ligase catalytic subunit, GCLM; glutathione cysteine modifier subunit, GPx4; glutathione peroxidase 4, HNE; 4 ...

Unexpected Remyelination in the Absence of Matrix Metalloproteinase 7

open access: yesGlia, Volume 73, Issue 6, Page 1288-1306, June 2025.
Main Points MMP7 is not essential for demyelination and remyelination in the cuprizone model. MMP7‐/‐ mice fibronectin aggregates do not accumulate in the remyelination phase. MMP7‐/‐ mice have lower levels of fibronectin and hyaluronan after chronic demyelination.

Genetic and Inflammatory Signatures Associated With Worse Prognosis in Hospitalized Patients With Severe SARS‐CoV‐2 Infection With and Without Diabetes

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 97, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SAR‐CoV‐2) presents with a diverse symptomology, ranging from asymptomatic to severe disease, but the mechanism of risk factors such as diabetes remains unelucidated. The current retrospective cohort study of 182 patients, with and without COVID‐19 and diabetes, analyzed leftover blood specimens

The importance of early immunotherapy in patients with faciobrachial dystonic seizures. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Faciobrachial dystonic seizures and limbic encephalitis closely associate with antibodies to leucine-rich glioma-inactivated 1 (LGI1). Here, we describe 103 consecutive patients with faciobrachial dystonic seizures and LGI1 antibodies to understand ...
