Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy as a complication of disease-modifying treatment of multiple sclerosis

open access: yesАнналы клинической и экспериментальной неврологии, 2018
The review provides modern understanding of the pathogenesis of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a severe and potentially fatal form of multiple-lesion disorder of the brain white matter.

Network Localization of Fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Fatigue is among the most common symptoms and one of the main factors determining the quality of life in multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the neurobiological mechanisms underlying fatigue are not fully understood. Here we studied lesion locations and their connections in individuals with MS, aiming to identify brain networks ...

Dobrushin ergodicity coefficient for Markov operators on cones, and beyond [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The analysis of classical consensus algorithms relies on contraction properties of adjoints of Markov operators, with respect to Hilbert's projective metric or to a related family of seminorms (Hopf's oscillation or Hilbert's seminorm).

Frailty Exacerbates Disability in Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To evaluate frailty in severe progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS) and to investigate the underlying mechanisms. Methods This prospective, cross‐sectional, multicenter study enrolled a late severe PMS group requiring skilled nursing (n = 53) and an age, sex, and disease duration‐matched control PMS group (n = 53).

Impact of Spatial Correlation on the Finite-SNR Diversity-Multiplexing Tradeoff

open access: yes, 2008
The impact of spatial correlation on the performance limits of multielement antenna (MEA) channels is analyzed in terms of the diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) at finite signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values.

Use of Symptomatic Drug Treatment for Fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis and Patterns of Work Loss

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To describe the use of central stimulants and amantadine for fatigue in MS and evaluate a potential association with reduced work loss in people with MS. Methods We conducted a nationwide, matched, register‐based cohort study in Sweden (2006 to 2023) using national registers with prospective data collection.

A New Method for the Estimation of Hydraulic Permeability, Coefficient of Consolidation, and Soil Fraction Based on the Dilatometer Tests (DMT)

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica, 2019
The main issue of the paper is the estimation of soil hydraulic permeability based on the DMT test. DMTA, DMTC and SASK methods performed in the Nielisz dam, Stegny and the SGGW Campus of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences sites are described.

5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT) used in a naturalistic group setting is associated with unintended improvements in depression and anxiety

open access: yesThe American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, 2019
Background: A recent epidemiological study suggested that 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT) used for spiritual and recreational reasons is associated with subjective improvement in depression and anxiety.
