The latch modulates nucleotide and DNA binding to the helicase-like domain of Thermotoga maritima reverse gyrase and is required for positive DNA supercoiling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Reverse gyrase is the only topoisomerase that can introduce positive supercoils into DNA in an ATP-dependent process. It has a modular structure and harnesses a helicase-like domain to support a topoisomerase activity, thereby creating the unique ...

Double-strand break repair and homologous recombination in Schizosaccharomyces pombe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In recent years our understanding of double strand break repair and homologous recombination in Schizosaccharomyces pombe has increased significantly, and the identification of novel pathways and genes with homologues in higher eukaryotes has increased ...

The Effects of Angiotensin Receptor Neprilysin Inhibitor on Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Doxorubicin‐Mediated Cardiomyopathy‐Associated Heart Failure Model in Rats

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT One of the most serious complications associated with the use of the chemotherapeutic agent doxorubicin (DOX) is cardiomyopathy. Although cardioprotective drugs such as angiotensin receptor‐neprilysin inhibitors (ARNI) are used to prevent cardiomyopathy in DOX patients, no studies have reported the relationship between ARNI and endoplasmic ...

Expression of proliferation-dependent antigens during cellular ageing of normal and progeroid human fibroblasts [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Normal human fibroblasts display a limited lifespan in culture, which is due to a steadily decreasing fraction of cells that are able to proliferate.

Evaluation of melanin-targeted radiotherapy in combination with radiosensitizing drugs for the treatment of melanoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The incidence of malignant melanoma is rising faster than that of any other cancer in the United States. An [131I]-labeled benzamide - [131I]MIP-1145 - selectively targets melanin, reduces melanoma tumor burden and increases survival in preclinical ...

Detecting Antibiotic Resistance in Strains of Selected Gram‐Negative Bacterial Species Using Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Raman spectroscopy successfully identified antibiotic‐resistant Gram‐negative strains. Resistant strains of four bacterial species were discriminated from sensitive ones with 99.1% accuracy using PLS regression. The method allows for rapid, label‐free detection of antibiotic resistance.

Ubiquitous Nature of Fluoroquinolones: The Oscillation between Antibacterial and Anticancer Activities

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2017
Fluoroquinolones are synthetic antibacterial agents that stabilize the ternary complex of prokaryotic topoisomerase II enzymes (gyrase and Topo IV), leading to extensive DNA fragmentation and bacteria death.

Mutations in topoisomerase IIβ result in a B cell immunodeficiency. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
B cell development is a highly regulated process involving multiple differentiation steps, yet many details regarding this pathway remain unknown. Sequencing of patients with B cell-restricted immunodeficiency reveals autosomal dominant mutations in ...

Aliphatic Poly(Carbonate)s with Acid Responsive Release Mechanisms for Micellar Anti‐Tumor Drug Delivery

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Micellar systems based on biodegradable aliphatic polycarbonates and acid‐responsive triggers enhance drug solubility, stability, and tumor‐selective release. This review covers micelles with acid‐cleavable drug linkages and those that disassemble via acid‐sensitive functionalities.

Divergent RNA transcription:A role in promoter unwinding? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
New approaches using biotinylated-psoralen as a probe for investigating DNA structure have revealed new insights into the relationship between DNA supercoiling, transcription and chromatin compaction.
