Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Domain structure of epitaxial Co films with perpendicular anisotropy

open access: yes, 2008
Epitaxial hcp Cobalt films with pronounced c-axis texture have been prepared by pulsed lased deposition (PLD) either directly onto Al2O3 (0001) single crystal substrates or with an intermediate Ruthenium buffer layer.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Functional insights into the photoactive yellow protein family from homologs, multidomain proteins, and inferred pyp operons

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology
Photoactive Yellow Protein (PYP) is a model system for functional protein dynamics and a prototype of the PAS domain superfamily. It is a bacterial photoreceptor that triggers a range of responses in different bacteria: phototaxis, biosynthesis of photo ...

Domain structure regularization in monocrystalline barium hexaferrite

open access: yesSemiconductor Physics, Quantum Electronics & Optoelectronics, 2018
Conditions for regular domain structure formation in a monocrystalline barium hexaferrite plate have been studied experimentally. The purpose of the work was to develop a simple and, at the same time, an effective method of regularizing the cylindrical ...

Dissipation, noise and DCC domain formation

open access: yes, 1999
We investigate the effect of friction on domain formation in disoriented chiral condensate. We solve the equation of motion of the linear sigma model, in the Hartree approximation, including a friction and a white noise term.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Search for and functional annotation of multi-domain PLA2 family proteins in flatworms

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции
The phospholipase A2 (PLA2) is a superfamily of hydrolases that catalyze the hydrolysis of phospholipids and play a key role in many molecular processes in the cells and the organism as a whole.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Low-temperature demagnetization of volcanic rocks containing multi-domain magnetic grains: Implications for the Thellier paleointensity determination [PDF]

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 2001
Thirteen samples of volcanic rocks from Caucasus, Iceland and Philippines were subjected to low-temperature treatment in order to remove the part of remanent magnetization carried by multi-domain grains. Ten to 40% of multi-domain partial thermoremanence
